I’m excited to be moving onto the second chapter! Well… I’m almost done with the third chapter now, but I have a list full of questions!

I read Chapter two today. I found it both more enjoyable and easier than chapter one. I’d put my understanding at about 92%, maybe 93% 
I plan on rereading a few times and trying to get as close to 100% as I can. I’ll ask about the parts I cannot figure out on my own. Will there be a new thread for the chapter.
Hey guys! Let’s talk about our beautiful club for a bit! 
In the よつばと！ Vol 1 thread, @seanblue gave the idea of creating an overlap of a weekend between chapters. This would allow us to have 2 full weekends to discuss each chapter. The more advanced members could move right away to the next chapter and the ones more delayed in their reading would still be able to catch up. I thought this was a wonderful idea and everyone seems to agree. Therefore, I decided to put it into action without creating a pool and risking losing any momentum.
Here’s the new schedule already posted in the よつばと！Discussion Thread:
Chapter 1: from the 1st of October until the 15th of October;
Chapter 2: from the 14th of October until the 22nd of October;
Chapter 3: from the 21st of October until the 29th of October;
Chapter 4: from the 28th of October until the 5th of November;
Chapter 5: from the 4th of November until the 12th of November;
Chapter 6: from the 11th of November until the 19th of November;
Chapter 7: from the 18th of November until the 26th of November;
Now let’s talk about the pool related to opening a new thread for each chapter. As for now, 36 people voted and 61% agreed to open a new thread. Since the discussion of the 2nd chapter already started, I think at least this one could continue to be connected to the current topic, as to avoid losing momentum. I suggested the idea of being possible for both Book Clubs to have a specific subcategory in order for everything to be better organized. The answer from the WK staff was a no.
It was also suggested to write the page number every time one asks a questions (hey, it was already in the book club rules… always read the rules! 
).
So now I ask you guys what should we do
Should we finish this 2nd chapter in the current thread (not talking about the later ones) or should we immediately create a new one?

Next: I honestly think there won’t be as many comments in future chapters. Eventually, we’ll get used to the speech used in the book/manga, so a lot of typical questions will end up disappearing. We’re going to divide the topics by chapters (as the pole determined). However, I think how this division works should be pondered later on. No matter the above pool’s results, I think it is logical to create a new topic only when the previous one is prone to get saturated We can’t predict if every individual thread will get saturated with only 1 chapter. The decision of opening a new one would be discussed before the start of the new chapter, of course.
What do you guys think we should do?
- I want each chapter to have its own thread.
- I want to decide later on if opening a new thread for the following chapter is justified.

While 61% is a majority, it’s not overwhelmingly so. And there’s been a lot less activity, so maybe the thread won’t balloon as much as we’ve been thinking it might.
Either way, some readers are more than halfway through ch2, if not already done, so we’re well on our way to seeing how many posts come out of a lighter chapter, how difficult the material is, and how many questions get repeated (which is my primary reason for voting in favour of separation).

But I was glad to see that here there is a readers’ club. May I ask you, from what level do you think it’s possible to join you, read and understand something in the kind of book you’ve chosen? I mean that when you go on with the next book maybe I’ll be able to join you?.. It’ll motivate me for studies even more.

I’m also a beginner. Even worse, I’m in my 50’s and have never studied a language since failing so miserably in French at school. I’ve lived all over the world for the past 2 decades using just English and so my brain just doesn’t see the point in languages. I’ve been in Japan for 6 years and can’t form a sentence…
…however, I must say, reading よつばと！with this group over the past couple of weeks has been the most enjoyable language learning experience of my life. I basically translate everything online, ask here when I get really stuck, and study the corresponding grammar as I go along.

Telling the truth it’s the only part I understood from the first sight. But Google translate helped to get the idea. As far as I see if I can read hiragana I can follow you.
By the way, it’s the first text ever addressed to me in Japanese! I’m really amazed to get somthing like this

I’d like to join this book club! I just ordered the first volume of Yotsuba from Amazon.com, but I won’t get it until the beginning of November.
I did the same a couple of weeks ago - mine might arrive next week! It’s quite tricky reading the small kanji on the digital chapters on the company’s website…
Hey, I’m a bit late to the game, but I hope to get caught up. I should have the book by the end of today and will get reading tonight.
Is there a plan for what will be read next? (Or how/when to choose?)
I’m really curious since I’ve already read a couple of volumes of Yotsuba and I’d love to see what the next step is.
I checked the intermediate book club but it seems too difficult for me right now. I’m counting on this club to read something challenging but doable at my level.
What’s your grammar level?
I’m taking N4 in December and I am currently reading a book called ぼくのおじさん. If you want something readable at your level, check this book out. It’s about a little boy and his uncle, written from the point of view of the boy, so the Japanese is a little easier to understand. There is no furigana, but I haven’t found it to be too frustratingly difficult yet. Just read along with a dictionary and look up the kanji you can’t read yet.
It all really depends on how much grammar you understand/know.
We should probably pick something soon considering how long it can take to order Japanese books.
I’ll post my suggestions tomorrow.
Should we make a seperate thread about it, as to not derail the Yotsuba thread for the others?
Awesome! Yeah, I was thinking about this today. I think we should at least reuse the previously suggestions too. There were some other options what got a lot of votes. Any extra suggestions are very welcome!

My grammar is not great, I haven’t been able to study much lately. Not N4 yet I think.
