Nothing to do at level 1

Hello everyone,

I have started two days ago, and I have only see radicals of Level 1. But now, nothing to do, only 20 reviews this morning and that’s it, no review, no new lesson. Is it a bug or normal?

Can’t I just practice freely? This seems a bit frustrating, I want to work more and I can only do like 2 minutes a day lmao.

Is it something I’m doing wrong? another site idk.

Thanks in advance.

I started a few weeks ago too! I think you can change that in Settings → App → Daily Lessons and Batch Size

Hope it helps!

WaniKani is always slow at the start. The reviews will quickly pile up when you do more lessons over the coming days. Once you do the reviews a couple of times and get the radicals correct, you’ll unlock kanji that use those radicals, then it starts to balloon from there. I think you’ll be surprised how quickly the number of reviews can get out of control.

You may also have an “Advanced” button you can click on underneath the lessons, which will let you select more things to study at a time. I’d recommend keeping the batch size and daily lesson amount at their default settings because you should be able to do more than 15 lessons per day with the advanced menu, if you want.

At the start, it’s fine to do more lessons because you won’t have a thousand reviews to come back to. Just keep in mind that you’ll want to slow down before you think you need to because all the lessons you’re doing now will come back at around the same time later, on top of all the lessons you may be doing at that point. A lot of people get burnt out when that huge wave of early vocabulary comes back after a few months of not seeing them and they don’t remember a lot of it anymore.

Thank you for this detailed answer. I will stick to this rhythm, then, and try not to be overwhelmed afterwards!

Try to maintain a good pace.

Not like me (currently at level 40)

Hoping to reach 7000 reviews in a month! :joy: :face_with_head_bandage:
