Congratz @vogelokinawa! If you want to burn them fast, my advice is to use the self-study script to work on your leeches
After a few months of reaching level 60, the items that will be left will be the most troubling ones, so itās good to start working on them as early as possible.
Have you achieved the full burn?
Oooh! Canāt imagine how that feels.
If I may ask, how long did it take you?
Hmm, Iād say a few months to burn the majority of them⦠but then I procrastinated on doing extra study for my leeches, and that postponed the whole thing 1 more year (pretty annoying, do your self-study guys!). Wanikani also kept adding new items after that (it takes 6 months to burn an item, assuming all reviews get answered correctly), so in total it was around 2 years and a few months to get 100% burned.
New content is usually added to the existing levels. And the lessons for any new item added below your level, will automatically be added to your lesson pile.
Ah, I see. Thatās really nifty actually.
Thatās great!
Iām almost there myself.
I donāt know when I will burn everything, but at least I hope to see the diminishment of my daily review pile.
Iām working on the same thing, good luck to both of us <3
Wow!
Meanwhile here I am with my disgusting dashboard- so many leeches, 0 burns, lesson backlog (I do 5 a day for now, sometimes 10), and still a number of apprentice items (just recently got it down from 100+)
If it makes you feel better, I had over 300 Apprentice items at the peak.
I donāt think Iāve hit 300, but Iāve definitly hit like 295ā¦
Your dashboard is not disgusting, looks perfectly normal to me
It takes a minimum of 6 months to burn an item, assuming one gets all the reviews done on time and answered correctly. So of course you have none. Plus, the reviews donāt need to be done all at once. I had a ābacklogā of reviews for 6 days a week while I was leveling up.
In case you havenāt read my guide for Wanikani, please do so. Iām sure youāll get lots of good info
(Read mainly chapters 1 to 8).
I donāt know anything about their update/addition history, but there is room to add some items. According to WKstats, there are 155 joyo kanji not covered by WK, so I would expect that to be the likely point of focus if they choose to add more material. The material covered here gives access to the vast majority of joyo and frequently used kanji.
When I first started studying Japanese in 2001, the joyo kanji list was shorter. There were only 1,945. Now, there are 2,136.
I envy your apprentice count (a full month after hitting level 60 and my apprentice is 107, hovered over 300 for the last 10 levels). And youāre not getting too many reviews per day. Itās normal to get items wrong over and over, so donāt get discouraged! Your dashboard looks great!
Also it looks like some of your main leeches are the 1-10 days? Those are a total pain but your best bet is probably to study them separately or memorize a song or something because theyāre so random. They still drive me nuts XD
Congrats! That must feel pretty amazing. No matter how large your review pile is, it must be a huge relief to not have to worry about lessons!
Can I ask why youāre planning to do a reset after full burn? Iād think after finishing wanikani, putting study time into a reset is not that productive/fun compared to immersing a lot, so Iām really curious what your reasoning is!
I enjoy learning Kanji and the best way not to forget them it to keep using them. I find Wanikani a good way to keep the juices flowing.
Well, ideally you would actually be using them and not just looking at flashcardsā¦
