I’m from Stockholm and would also say Nikoll, but I didn’t listen to the thing
Hello fellow former Stockholmer! I’m also from there. Yeah, the Swedish guy who’d left the Swedish pronunciation said the cole part of Nicole like kål (vitkål, grönkål, etc.) (and I definitely heard some hint of dialect, but not enough to place it, not that I’m good at placing such things anyway). It sounded very weird to me. xD
Damn you livin in a syndrome?
Anything that ends in L we pronounce as U unless there’s E. So that’s probably it
Nothing
Did you decide to stop reading the series altogether? I thought I might find out more by catching up on the threads, but no dice. This is of course completely fine, I’m just surprised. ^^
Have you decided to take your reading into a different direction this year?
Ah, I just hadn’t gotten around to announcing this in the threads (basically because I didn’t really know where and how…
)
I haven’t actively abandoned the series, it’s just that I read the first chapter and it somehow felt so uninspiring to me and you know, ten kilometers of descriptions of Moe’s colorful clothes and then the long-winding descriptions of these objects… it just didn’t click with me, and so I decided after some weeks of internal debate that I should rather not read it now if I don’t really feel like it. I see that it seems to be interesting further down the line, and so I will probably come back at some point.
But no matter what, I will host the series anyways!
Apologies, deleted, posted in wrong thread!
I was just about to comment on that
I haven’t done any long-term planning, no. There are still 14 volumes of Flesh&Blood that I’d like to read at some point, and then I have a gazillion other books and I would like to reduce the pile a bit. So the general strategy of reading well-written interesting books remains unchanged! Maybe I can even manage to fit in one or two Akutagawa prize winners, who knows.
I thought I’d pull you in here because I don’t see a thread where this really fits. Please forgive me, and if you’re not interested please walk away silently, I won’t blame you!
I think the hostage book is a lost cause by now. I had somehow expected this to happen when I called upon the other clubs, and I’m of course fine with that because the club should read the book that the majority favors, not that I personally favor
But I’m not planning to read a teenie romance, and I noticed you didn’t vote for it either. Sooo
Ha-ahem there is this sale on Bookwalker right now, and the books were already pretty cheap to start with, and so … erm … well … ahem … we could start whenever you feel like
What do you think?
Oh you meant it! (I sort of realized)
I’m interested (as if I wouldn’t be), but are you clear on what kind of book it’s going to be? Because I keep reading reviews and I’m still not sure.
No, I’m not clear at all. You said the reviews say it’s not a romance and not a light novel, and that’s 90% already and that it’s dark, so I want to see what that means. (I might drop it if it gets too scary, though
)
I usually don’t read reviews as much when I get a clear recommendation from somebody, and this guy was really determined about the book. Also, I think it should be read in the order Age22 → Age32 and the Age22 book is only 200 pages (not much more than the ご飯 book) so we could read that in a week or two and see whether we like it.
What still worries me is the cover, and whether it’s targeted at younger audiences. But reviews like this (from Amazon) set my mind at ease, I think:
正直に言うと、あまり読みやすいとは言えない本でした。
なんだか硬くて、エンタメというより、純文学のような感じです。
就職に失敗した青年の人生を描いています。
読みにくいのに、読み終わると、妙に登場人物のことが気になりました。なんとも言えない後味です。
気楽に小説を読みたい人は避けたほうがよいと思います。
If I understand correctly, the mystery element appears in the second volume, and the first volume shouldn’t be judged on its own. It’s all a bit strange.
What are the books you’re discussing? I think I saw them today when browsing Bookwalker but now can’t find the, again!

His biography sounds pretty impressive

I guess it means that he’s cute and knows how to play that, and all the girls fall for him?
Let’s see…
Hmmm…
Thanks, I’ve been shopping! Can’t guarantee to read at your pace but am interested to try!
