haven’t seen this one mentioned, and it must have happened with the recent update
when doing reviews, if you look in the item info and at the kanji composition, normally you can click on what’s there to go to that kanji’s page
now the link is `https://www.wanikani.com/subjects/review#`
and yes, i did turn off scripts to check if that was the issue

I’m not seeing anything at all in the Item Info box since the update. I click on it and it’s blank. I even disabled all my userscripts and that didn’t help.

I indeed got the same (firefox, windows).

On mobile I tested it as well, but there it behaves entirely different. The page is updated with the new information. For example if I do a vocab, then click a kanji, the whole explanation in the review page is now the explanation of the selected Kanji (and continues happening for all items I click).

On second look, this also happens on Windows. The whole page in review is changed to the new thing, see screenshot when I clicked fire for mars;

So instead of a new page, you can now navigate within the review window, which is a lot better for mobile. For desktop it is alright for me and no strong opinion on the matter.

Hi, go to your [App Settings](https://www.wanikani.com/settings/app) and scroll down to the “local data settings”. Click on Synchronize Data. If your item count currently is below 9409, you just need to resync and you’ll start seeing the item info.

it could be this is the intended result, but it’s not happening for me
edit: actually, it is now, so i suppose that’s that (i want to middle-click)
not sure how i feel about it, but we’ll see after a bit
like, how does one get back from that page? 🤔
i guess just click on the vocab at the bottom
i think i would prefer opening in a new page, which won’t work now, but maybe i can get used to it

Yea I think clicking on the vocab again. I do have to admit I got lost when testing and was like, how do I get to the page I started on 😅 So it would probably be nice to have something to return back to the original explanation.

I do not have a lot of experience with web, but most likely the left and right/middle button click can be separated for different actions. Would be nice if they could add to have both options 🙂 Not sure where to add such a suggestion so hopefully the content team sees this somehow.

for sure
i think closing and reopening the item info, at least, should refresh, but that would be rather cumbersome

This really feels like a straightforward bug: the kanji in kanji composition used to be links (e.g. you could copy them to get their URL, or right-click them to open them in a new tab/window), but now the links don’t go anywhere, and only their JavaScript click handler does anything. I personally don’t like the thing it now does — replace content in the page with no way to go back to what you were looking at before — but, regardless, the loss of the kanji links must be a mistake?

I pushed out an update today that lets you use the ctrl key or the meta key (command or windows key) when you click to open the item in a new tab. Hopefully that helps but let us know if not.

That’s an improvement, thank you, but why’s the kanji still not a link to its kanji page? Is that not possible?

Sorry it was just an oversight. I have updated it now. Hopefully that is what you were after.

If you don’t mind, could you share why you prefer to open the items in a new tab? I am guessing you have your own workflow, which I would be interested in understanding as it may help shape future changes.

Hi !

I support @tomstuart : Now we can visualize the kanji within the review page instead of having to open a new window, but then from this kanji you can go visualize another vocab word, from the vocab word another kanji, etc etc…
The problem is that there is no easy way to get back to the initial content

I personally don’t see a lot of value in being able to review the kanji info within the review page instead of having to open a new tab. In a new tab, you can then navigate easily across words/kanjis without fearing to refresh the review tab by mistake

Finally for the community: this change broke a lot of userscripts

Thank you for bringing this up. It was good the way it was, and you’re absolutely right about this. It’s been weeks since this update and I still am not getting used to this udpate. 🥲
