With all of the recent changes to the lesson settings, I’m curious how many people deviate from the default setting? For those of you who change it, what do you dislike about the default? What do you change it to? Thanks!
I found that if I have, say, 10 kanji and 50 vocab, the automatic interleaving will give me two kanji and a vocab. So I manually give myself more vocab so I can get through it quicker.
Being able to choose particular items for lessons and turning interleave lessons off really made a difference for me.
I can manage the level of difficulty in a way that items I already know will go in one session, and can reach my max amount of lessons per day (25) so when they come back as a review session it is less demanding, which is a nice positive feedback. With new or difficult items, I can choose to do only 5 new lessons to keep it going but not overwhelm myself.
Not interleaving the lessons also make my item notes less chaotic when I write down new items.
I leave everything default for a couple of reasons:
- So i don’t spend all my time “optimizing the process” (fiddling with settings, aka. rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic) instead of studying
- So I can’t rationalize choices that aren’t good for me, just convenient for me.
i.e., the “just shut up and do it” strategy. It’s not for everyone, but it works for me.
That said, I’ve been doing a lot more reading than wanikani anyway lately, so I haven’t really even tried out all the new stuff fully
- (more related to using scripts) - I use several different computers from time to time in different offices. I do WK when I have a few slow minutes, waiting for a meeting to start, etc. It’s just easier if they all act the same.
Got it all on default rn, drop wk do to working 64-76hrs a week. And too much srs. So I’m just gonna focus on one get it up a bit and then cycle to another and just do reviews on others.
I plan on tweaking things as needed but the effects can take awhile to fully play out as far as numbers go…
I’m mostly interested in how interleaving lessons are gonna feel vs the old way and whether I should change it back, leave it as is, or manually pick lessons.
