New Japanese Era Name [Update: it's Reiwa (令和)]

The only possible option: 里心 (りしん).

Maybe don’t call him the 質 emperor, then…

Or maybe choose 里心 and shut up all the complainers on WK once and for all

It’s 令和. I love how everyone is totally silent

So how do we translate that ? Order and harmony ?

Hmmm from 平成 “become peace” to “ordering peace”?

Apparently the intended meaning of 平成 was “peace everywhere.” Based on some Chinese texts that inspired it.

How do we read it? れいわ? Doesn’t really flow off the tongue…

Suga is explaining what it means, unfortunately I don’t understand anything.

It is indeed れいわ. I think it’s pretty simple in terms of pronunciation, the meaning is quite plain though, but that is hardly unexpected.

Also, people continue to be completely silent as they leave. Classic Japanese lol

Judging from the chat the reception seems to be mostly positive. I would like to hear the lore behind 令和 though, as I couldn’t really understand what was being said.

Hark, did someone say 菅? Who ever said we’d never need to know how to read “sedge”? :stuck_out_tongue:

菅 is definitely a great name for a 内閣官房長官.

Yup. My Japanese coworker is saying the same thing. 言い難い
