I have been using Wani Kani, Bunpro, Duolingo, and busuu. I slowed down on Busuu because I wanted to learn grammar and punctuation. To be honest I am learning alot but I still can’t speak properly. I can say basic phrases like Sono Choshi De and Hajime mashite, yoroshiku onegaishimasu. Yet when I want to say things like Dou desu ka?, I cant follow up with anything. My mind goes blank.
Usually, when we learn a word, first we can read and understand it independently, then later, we cah hear it and understand it. After that, we can use it in writing, then use it in speaking. (I teach English, and it’s the usual order that students recognize and use words in that language, anyway!) Unfortunately, learning Japanese takes a lot more time than learning languages like Spanish, which have a similar alphabet and some similar vocabulary to English.
Have you been listening to some beginner conversations or podcasts on Youtube? These might help you with understanding what some of the basic conversation patterns sound like. You can repeat what they say (shadowing) to get used to saying different Japanese phrases. Once you get confident with some of these phrases, try having a conversation with your pet or a picture in your home just to practice saying the sentence patterns and the responses.
Others might have a Youtube channel they can recommend that they found helpful for beginner phrases and conversation patterns (I enrolled in an in-person class at the beginning of my studies to get a foundation).
I’ve burned 17 kanji in August. I’ve been working hard on getting leveled up. Shouldn’t be too much longer. I keep workong till I do.
