Yeah that was odd in hindsight. I guess we had different reflexes back then…
If you remember in highschool, 淳子 had straight hair, so she just has a perm. 
京助 is perhaps less obvious, but it was pretty popular at the time for musicians and other “artsy” Japanese people to put their hair into locs. In fact, I’m in Japan right now on a trip and I saw a guy on the train the other day styled exactly like 京助, lol. It made me smile 
I very often struggle to identify ethnicity in manga because most artists draw everybody with very big eyes which immediately makes all the characters look white to me instead of Asian. And of course most of the art is black and white which doesn’t help. It’s especially tricky for fantasy settings I think, where you can’t use context to make assumptions.
I was thinking about that while reading Witch Hat Atelier the other day, there was a clearly black man introduced which made me question how I was supposed to perceive every other character in the story.
What blew my mind in that one is when they talked about their red uniforms, never thought about it before that they could have different color of robes and that they had a meaning maybe. Seems like a lot is lost with black and white!

章司 is a 浪人, he will be in prep school for a year, that is prepare for the actual exams for a year
Then he has to try again and they discuss that when Nana comes back in one year, for sure he’ll be in this time.
Not sure what’s the difference that makes that they think Nana should be studying back home:
Maybe Shouji is from Tokyo and can just live there (at his parents?) while for Nana it would be unreasonable because so expensive.
Right ok, the fact that he insists that Nana should return home led me to believe he was enrolling in a sort of “prépa” style school, not just going rogue.
Something tells me that if you want to spend a year studying on your own, you’re probably better off doing it in the countryside rather than Tokyo, for cost of life reasons and fewer distractions…

I love the expressions in this chapter!!! Soooo many good ones.
I was surprised that the closure with 浅野 went so well - our baby 奈々 is growing up a little bit. I like that they didn’t dwell too much on their past or that 奈々 didn’t bring up all the resentment she had buried before. I guess time healed some wounds, and when she actually met him and realised that life had simply moved on, it was easier for her to do the same, rather than if she had never seen him again.
Like others, I’m also sceptical about the long-distance. 章司 and 奈々 didn’t have much time together after deciding to date, and with 章司 immediately moving to Tokyo, it makes me a bit uneasy. Especially since they’re still young, and given their whole “boys and girls can’t be friends” mindset, I feel like that might change a little for 章司 once he’s in Tokyo. It just seems inevitable? And if 奈々 stays behind without making new friends, she might still cling to that same attitude? And if they meet again, how would their dynamics change??
Okay idk if I’m making sense anymore. I’m probably reading too much into this. ANYWAY, I sneaked a peek at the next few pages!!! and absolutely cannot wait!! to read more!!
