Yay we’re back!!!

Chapter 33

I’m not really a fan of Layla and Shin (I think they’re both pretty terrible for each other), but this small part did make me smile.

Nana needing to call Hachi right away on Ren’s phone, and trying to plug it in alllll the way across the room was kind great

Nana actually got two great 3 panel sets that I really enjoyed in this. It feels like her and Hachi’s roles are somewhat reversed right now and it feels like she’s been getting a lot of what are usually Hachi’s physical gags in this chapter:

I thought Shin’s conversation with Hachi was actually really interesting, since he was the first one to give it from the point of view of her future child. We got a lot more backstory (although the biggest revelation not from him).. but this in particular kinda broke my heart.

And with that, all that happened in this chapter, nothing else, what are you talking about, there wasn’t any fallout from the paparazzi *fingers in ears* lalalalala

Chapter 33

So cute!

But this chapter broke my heart so many times. Nana tried so, so hard to make it happen to meet Hachi and it almost happened many times, but eventually didn’t happen :frowning:

Famous last words :sob:

Chapter 33

I was so heartbroken last chapter that I completely forgot to comment on BLAST / NANA being exposed, damn paparazzi, but very excited for their debut, finally!!

Surely I will eventually get to that “catch up NANA session” I keep telling me I will do for the past month or so.

Might want to stay away from the threads until then, the covers of the chapters could be a bit spoilery…

Meanwhile I’m like, ugggh I really need to get back to my FF game

Chapter 34

I feel like this chapter was a bit chaotic, showing well how chaotic the situation is!

Nana being cornered in her apartment and Yasu coming to save her was great. The whole situation was so tense, I was also on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what Nana would say, while I was still very sad that she and Hachi didn’t manage to meet (again).

So her using the spotlight to send a message to Hachi was amazing. Made me cry, literally :x

Oh I just remembered I took a bunch of screen shots but forgot to post about this chapter… Let me grab those off my e-reader and do that today

22 hours ago, you can still make it :eyes:

Chapter 36

TIL about ゲリラライブ and サクラs!

Also I don’t understand this sentence:
ハクがつきまくりだよ (p.161)
both ハク and つきまくり are confusing me, anyone?

Not sure either about this one, p.183:
ここまで
手の内
晒しちゃとぼけ様がねえな

The conversation between Ren and Layla was interesting. A bit of a funny situation with them both having love interests in the other band (well kinda, not sure if love interest is the right word for Shin or Yasu really… and then there’s her love for Takumi too…). This chapter really shows how close Nana and Yasu are now, and it’s almost like they can feel it too. Nana can feel it too.
As for Shin + Layla, it’s sweet and all, but I can’t imagine people’s reactions, especially Nana and Yasu’s, if they ever found out.

Happy to see Hachi a bit more, but it’s also bittersweet.

That’s a bit how I feel too

Next volume should be interesting, Takumi meets the 小松 family, and Black Stones makes their debut, first single plus live concerts to come!

Not really answers:

Page 161

I’m pretty baffled by this bit as well, but I can tell you that the English version has for that paragraph:

“Just like they did with Nana, they’re dredging up every bit of his past. They’re making him out to be a total thug, based on his looks. (But you should see him in his P.E. uniform!)”

Based on that, I’d assumed ハク had something to do with thugishness, but I can’t find any evidence of that online (or any other meaning that makes sense here). But the English version is often rather far from a direct translation…

The つきまわり part might be つく + まくる, with the meaning of "つく"ing over and over. Of course, there are lots of meaning for of つく, include “to be attached”, “to stab” and “to lie”, any of which might be plausible here.

Page 183

ここまで
手の内 晒しちゃ
とぼけ様がねえな

The English version helped here:

“I laid all my cards on the table. I can’t deny it any more.”

But here I think I understand most of the Japanese.
手の内 can mean “one’s (concealed) intentions; one’s cards” and 晒す is ”to expose". So “I exposed my cards.” (English version: “I laid all my cards on the table.”)
とぼける is “to play dumb”. So とぼけ様がねえな is “I can’t play dumb, can I.” (English version: “I can’t deny it anymore.”
I’m less sure about ここまで, but based on this stackexchange question, I wonder if it might be short for something like “ここまで来ると” (as asked about in that question), “When it has become this obvious”.
So, overall, “It’s that obvious. I exposed my cards. I can’t play dumb anymore.”

I have questions of my own, but I’ll put them in another post.

I think we’ve had this discussion with ハク before in a previous volume now that I think about it  something about reputation, I’ll try to look for it again.
Thanks for the answers!

My questions.

Pages 157 and 161

諸星 refers to himself as あたし and ナナ says he should talk like a man. Is this a hint that he might be gay? Googling I found some places saying that would be the case and others saying it could just be his dialect.
I’m suspicious because on page 161, were he says くやしいっ, the English version has “He’s Mine!” I’m wondering if they did that because they couldn’t use the pronoun to signal that earlier.

Page 157

At bottom, when ヤス says “いや おれも別に自然にハゲてるわけじゃ”. With いや and おれも, it seems like ヤス is saying he’s also not naturally bald, but I’m not seeing where the negative is in that sentence. Is it the 別に? If not, what is that doing there?

諸星 with the caveat that gender identity is not always tied to sexuality, I think yeah, the implication is that he’s overly feminine, perhaps therefore gay. Deciding to self identify with あたし is definitely making himself as gender non conforming in some form.

Page 157 I think you’re right and it’s the 別に that makes it into a negation. I didn’t have problems with that sentence when I read it but now that I’m trying to actually break it down, yeah, there’s no explicit negative there..

I have been super behind in my NANA posting. I think these are all in the right chapter, but open at your own peril..

Chapter 34

I love these boys without their hair done. They look so much more their ages

I’m against violence in almost all forms, but I simultaneously love that Yasu stood up for Nana and also that she slapped him..

Oh wait, here’s Shin on the way to the hotel making sure he’s presentable

Chapter 35

ngl, I didn’t have Junko pegged as a draws pictures of puppies kinda artist

This face

I def had other thoughts while I was reading, but they have long since evaporated from my brain.. this is the best I can do (and I really need to remember to post my Nana thoughts earlier than two weeks after I’ve read the chapters…)

Edit: Didn’t actually mean to reply to you there Akashelia
