So of course, immediately after beginning this, I’ve had a fairly significant health problem flareup (I always am ). A root canal I had to have a bit under 2 years ago has failed, no fault of my own, seems like the crown cement just wore away enough to let bacteria back in to torment me now. Anyway I have an endodontist that gets me in really quickly thankfully but the pain came back so fast and hard over like two days. This morning I had root canal retreatment and sadly learned afterwards that unlike the first time, it won’t lead to instant relief. If I’m lucky I’ll see some fading in the next day or two (could be a bit longer…) but despite pushing up against the limits of ibuprofen and acetaminophen you can take in a day, the pain is very significant and I already didn’t sleep much at all last night; I’m fearing the night cause it reaches its worst then.
Anyway complaining more because bad tooth pain is truly the worst thing I’ve felt in my life, but, there is at least some possibility this is going to disrupt my ability to plan things because I’m barely managing to do anything for most of today so far.
Ok it’s looking more likely there might be a significant interruption; I am still going through awful pain and since last night my face is starting to swell a significant bit so I guess I’m going to be tortured a while longer. I always react really badly to antibiotics which is probably where I’m headed so I’m going to have tooth pain and those side effects together.
Going in a little later for direct evaluation but I’m piling up the days with no sleep from some of the worst pain ever and I realized now it’s a course of 2 different antibiotics they’ve given me, and taking any single one has always made me so sick I usually cannot make it through more than a day or two. With the way that destroys you inside with pretty long lasting consequences I’m definitely not going to be ok. At this point I think unrealistic the best case scenario is a peaceful death so I’m going to have to say sorry I kind of don’t expect to be able to continue this.
This whole thing began 2 years ago with a crown the dentist said I needed in a tooth that was at that time asymptomatic, who knows if it actually needed anything and also if the way it flared up terribly wasn’t at least in part her incompetence. Dentistry has almost no regulation so you are just at their mercy. I wasn’t properly informed to not expect root canal retreatment to give the sort of instant relief you get from a first one or I would have tried to get it extracted quickly, and because of getting scammed that way they now maybe have my life at risk from facial infection. Dentists and all associated are truly the worst people in the world.
There’s not much to say except I’m sorry to hear all of that. I know it’s not much coming from a relative stranger who doesn’t know your situation like you do, but I sincerely hope there’s something that can be done for you. Of course you shouldn’t feel bad about not being able to continue the club under the circumstances
Thanks. I went down to the endodontist, they lanced and drained my gums, gave the antibiotics and then told me if I get a fever it’s hospital time for IV antibiotics. By the time I made it home I was near 102F lol. Off to the hospital… (I know you’re wondering why I’m typing this but it’s not THAT urgent so much as I need IV meds happening tonight and I have eaten almost nothing today so I’m typing while I have a banana lol)
If you need someone to run things here, at least for the time being, don’t hesitate to say so.
The number of active book clubs I’m running is down to three these days, so I can add another thread to my weekly tasks. I’d just need to know your planned stopping points for each week if you’ve worked them out in advance; otherwise, I can take a shot at pacing things.

Sorry to hear (well, read) that! A few years back I had an infected root canal, but it was nowhere near as bad. I got antibiotics to get the infection under control and then got the old fillings cleaned out and redone. No one really knew why it happened: I had the original root canal done when I was a kid (2003, maybe? Definingly pre-2005), so it was a very long time ago.
Anyway, I hope you feel better soon and everything gets sorted out!
I think I’ve got things about ready for a week 2 post. I think I have a good stopping point. I’m aiming to post week 2 on the same weekday as you posted week 1, as that will be one day before I do my book club posts.
Get better soon, but don’t hesitate to take it a bit slow when things are getting back to normal!
