(Still on holiday, so again sorry for the late reply)
Could it be that the deck has undergone some changes by the author that might’ve caused this?

Could it be that the deck has undergone some changes by the author that might’ve caused this?
I’m the author of the sumo grammar deck, I can confirm that I have not made any recent updates.
I’m on 18.1.1 and the audio works…I’ll update to 18.3.1 and see if I get the same issue.
Edit: 18.3.1 broke my audio as well. Same, first card plays fine but subsequent cards will not play
I see, looks like I’ll have to do some testing then! Thanks for letting me know!
Could it be? No it couldn’t. But? Maybe???
That’s right, it’s the very last N3 content drop! Hoo-ray!!! I can’t believe we’ve made it this far, and I’ve got so many people I’d like to thank: my mom, Maru, Velociraptor Steve,… what do you mean this isn’t the last batch? What do you mean this is the second-to-last batch and that the last batch isn’t out until the 20th? What did I wear these special pants for, then? And who am I talking to???
Well, it may not be the last batch, but it is still a good one! We’ve got extra-ordinary grammar points like the ~を通して・~を通じて combo (two for the price of one!), ~てすむ for “to resolve X by doing Y” statements, and another “X is difficult to do” point by way of ~がたい (don’t worry, I promise it’s different than the last two).
What’s more, learn words like 独創 (“originality”), 盛ん (“prosperous”), and 目玉商品 (“bargain goods”), and practice them all in this week’s reading exercise, featuring the long-anticipated Culture Series #22 on traditional Japanese colors!
That’s all for now, and I’ll see you in 10 8 days for the real final batch of N3!
Happy studies!
It’s that time, for real! I am pleased to offer you, a hand-crafted, sand-blasted, Shirley Temple-sipping, no-nonsense, final boss-batch of N3 content.
It takes no prisoners, needs no friends, and is absolutely full to the brim of exciting grammatical, vocabular, and readingary content. Those are all words, because I said so.
In this, the final batch of N3, we’ve got grammatical treasures such as ~にしても for “even if that was the case” hypotheticals, ~途中 for “in the middle of” constructs (yes, we really screwed up not putting this in the middle of the region–I don’t want to hear about it), and ~ている場合じゃない for “this isn’t the time to be…” statements.
You’ll also unlock vocabulary such as 退屈 (“boredom”), 実施 (“implementation”), and 妥協 (“compromise”)! Then, reinforce these in N3’s final reading exercise, which covers a JUMBO nikuman, a charming tale of two elephants, and “natto”, the Japanese soul food.
A big お疲れ様です to everyone who has been working their way through content simultaneous to release–you did it! You’re at the end of N3, and the Sands of Mastery await. We can’t wait to fully unveil the new region, and let everyone sink their teeth into some delicious N2 content.
For now, the team will be partaking in a few weeks of non-stop partying to celebrate the end of N3 content, followed by a few weeks of recovery from said partying. (JK, haha )
That’s all for now, and as always,
Happy studies!
@neicul I have a couple of questions about MaruMori:
Heya!
Are there any plans to have a crossword game where we get words from the imported WaniKani?
Hmm… this is probably a “me problem” then I kinda don’t like instant/realtime-messaging for any group chats (save for some tiny ones like family over whatsapp/telegram). Most of the time for masive groups it’s virtually impossible to keep up with everything (and if feels most of the time like mostly noise, brrrrr) and most messages are usually short and lack of depth.
And in the end the answer is not “right away”.
I created a message in there (Discord) and uhm… no response not to mention that finding it (again) was just a chore.
With discourse I can create a thread with a suggestion and get notified by email if someone responds and then find it easily with “my messages”.
Not to mention that searching for something that may have been asked in the past is basically impossible…
So to drive the point - maybe having forum and discord kinda splits the community, but then only having discord kinda cuts out part of the community that don’t really feel like using it (e.g. I don’t plan to use it at all unfortunatelly…)
Great to hear! Though after a while (after discovering community ones) they are quite great most of the time
Hi everyone!
Our spring sale on lifetime memberships is now live! So if you’ve been waiting to grab that full-on, hardcore, lifetime, super-commitment to learning Japanese, now’s the time! The sale will last for 2 weeks, so be sure to grab it on time if you want to get it!
Also, and perhaps more importantly, our annual easter egg hunt is now live too! Head over to any of the available regions and try to catch ‘em all. I’m personally still looking for one in Depths from last year… grrr.
And just in case you missed it, our N3 content in the Jungle of Tenacity is now complete! That means you can journey all the way from absolute beginner, all the way to intermediate, and all on MM! Wahoo!
The release of the N2 region and its content is coming very soon, so keep your eyes peeled like Japanese-learning oranges. I will spoil it a bit though: it’s very sandy, mysterious, and grammatical. Does that make sense?
Happy studies!
No plans I’m afraid! I think that’d be more something for WK to potentially look into themselves, or perhaps one of those third party websites that hook into the WK API? I think I saw one pop up on this forum here not too long ago
Is it possible to reset/delete an account so that I can use the trial again? I signed up a while back and never used it, but now I’m interested in giving it another try, but don’t want to use a different email address / username.
Hey! Awesome that you want to check it out again
If you send us an email (support @ marumori . io) with your registered email address, I can delete it for you! I can also give your existing account a new trial, though it might be better to just completely restart with a fresh account, depending on how much you did in the previous trial.
Exciting news, everyone! The Sands of Mastery (N2) region, in all of its sandy glory, is now live!
Not only does this mark the release of our N2 content, but it also means that our N3 content is officially complete! I think at this point, we’re allowed to say that we cover quite a big chunk of content indeed!
For some perspective, N2 itself will span 38 batches of content, containing 268 tiles, 512 kanji, 1682 vocabulary, and 191 grammar lessons! That’s a lot of tiles. This also means that if you make it all the way from Absolute Beginner through to the end of the Sands of Mastery, you’ll have learned 5772 vocabulary and 1604 total kanji! I know, big numbers.
The Sands of Mastery is also the first region to feature a secret second area, and two hidden easter eggs. (Not to mention the seasonal easter eggs, which have now expanded to the new island!) There may or may not be some new achievements up for grabs if you manage to unearth these sandy secrets…
(Please note that although the region is now fully released, some assets (namely the regional top banner artwork) are yet to be fully completed, so what you see at the moment as banner art is still a WIP. We’ll be updating it in the next couple of days, but didn’t want you to have to wait any longer for the first content drop of N2!
The new region is also ready in the mobile apps, but won’t be accessible until we release a new version. We’re still waiting for the final banner art until the apps get submitted to the app stores. More info on that very soon!)
It’s been a long time coming, and we’re excited to release all of our N2 content, including grammar lessons, unlocks, reading exercises, and cultural lessons over the coming months. We hope you find this new, more advanced content just as engaging and awesome as ever!
And speaking of said content…
Along with the region, our first batch of N2 content is now live! Since N2 is infamous for having a lot of similar grammar, we’ve gone with a brand new structure featuring grammar “categories” that we will cycle through, plenty of compare and contrasting, as well as category wrap-up lessons where we compare similar points. Check out the N2 intro tile for more details!
In this, the very first batch of N2 grammar (!!!), learn a new way to form incomplete lists with ~やら~やら, waffle with ~というか~というか, stumble over ~にもかかわらず’s many kana, and learn about an extra special “but” with ~ものの. This batch also features a cultural lesson about お辞儀 (“bowing”) culture in Japan. So if you’ve ever wondered if you’ve been bowing incorrectly this whole time, definitely give this one a read!
This batch’s vocab features words like 偉人 “great person”, 寝坊 “sleeping in late”, and 金銭 “money”. Then, practice your new grammar with this batch’s reading, featuring the over-winter cabbage, Mike’s foray into baking, and a business email. (Yes, it’s time for the debut of the dreaded “business” email.)
I’ll wrap this up, as I’m sure you’re eager to get out there and explore the new region. Okay, ready? Set? Go!
And as always,
Happy studies!
P.s. We’ve also fixed a few of those pesky bugs and introduced a few smaller (but super handy!) features and improvements. I’ll round those up in another announcement soon!
P.p.s. We’ve also decided to extend our spring sale by one more week, so it will end on the 22nd instead!
A couple of quick questions if you don’t mind! I’m tired of the terrible communication and lack of updates to the WK website, so MaruMori looks interesting and I’m thinking of trying it out (as it looks like I can import my WK progress).
Thanks!
Heya!
Thanks for wanting to try out MM!
On MM, you can learn any kanji or vocabulary you want through premade or personal study lists. We have about 270k vocabulary forms and 18k kanji in the DB iirc (though you definitely would not want to study all of those haha). For our “main” adventure study list (you unlock items while progressing through Adventure regions), it has about 7k vocab and 2k kanji in there iirc. This is similarly structured to WK (get a kanji → get vocab unlocks → repeat).
Yes, the whole site has a dark theme that you can enable from the settings page.
I’m afraid we don’t offer discounts, other than our lifetime sales.
TBD. As you can likely imagine, manga study lists will take a while to set up an automatic process for and will need additional quality checking compared to, say, novel or anime study lists.
Yes, we have a Public API that’s currently in Beta and largely undocumented, though there are users who’ve documented most of what’s currently available and shared it. At some point in the future, I’ll fully document it and bring it out of Beta, but it’s been a lower priority than some other features/projects at the moment. As for extensions, I’m guessing you mean userscripts? That’s also possible, though typically we implement requested features before someone wants to make a userscript for it haha.
Quick note regarding the public API, as it’s still in beta it’s currently limited to subscribers only. The WK Sync is also limited in the same way. Regarding transferring progress, we currently only allow the sync to mark items as “known”. Which means they do not show up in your lessons or reviews at all. We do not sync the actual SRS levels of WK items.
Hope that answers a few of your questions, if you have any more, feel free to ask!
Thank you for the comprehensive reply! The fact that WK refuses to give good answers like this is exactly why I want to move to MaruMori
One last question - if I get the monthly subscription, and then e.g. knew I was going to be busy for a couple of months and paused the subscription, could I then resume it again at a later date without losing any data / progress?
Thanks!
EDIT: Okay, I signed up but am unsure about the WK “connect” function. I put in an API key and it said it successfully imported my known kanji/vocab, but seemingly nothing changed on my profile… A bunch that are enlightened on WK also came up in a MM lesson as new kanji… Am I misunderstanding how this is meant to work? I thought if I “connected” to WK then MM would mark the items I’ve done here as learned?
I just found that in the study list they are actually marked as “Known” - why then is that not reflected on my profile and why do they still appear in the lessons
EDIT EDIT: I like the grammar explanations so far! One other question - does vocab not have any MM mnemonics? If so, maybe a feature request would be to have the option to auto-show the top community one Actually just saw that MM vocab mnemonics are on the roadmap. I look forward to them!
Awww…
Pretty please…
Just for WK users…
Make it real at least at year’s end (like WK)…
PS. I really like the concept but, seriously 300+ dollars is some money for some of us who live outside the U. S.
There is sale now till the 21st, and you get 2 lifetime platforms for less than the lifetime price for WK with WAY more content/features that is actively developing…that is pretty good
I have tried to start using Morimori multiple times over the past few months but it is just impossible i use firefox on an Mac M3pro and whenever i try to do something on Morimori it just doesnt do anything and fills up my entire RAM
