MaruMori.io & Kitsun.io - [UPDATE: N2 REGION LIVE + CONTENT DROPS STARTED & N3 CONTENT COMPLETE] - Grammar SRS, Grammar Lessons, Reading Exercises, Vocabulary, Kanji and more!

Ah I see!

But to access it you would still need to know the exact title of the grammar point right? We sometimes have titles like “は vs が pt 3” iirc

Here’s a quick example:

The titles are also being edited sometimes (especially true for N2+ entries we still have to write the breakdowns for), so I’m not sure how well that’d work for you

What you can do already though is use https://marumori.io/grammar?q=yourtexthere

With the q param you make it search on the overview page right away, sadly it won’t automatically redirect to the entry as it might find multiple results.

Maybe that helps a bit though? What would you like to use it for? ^^

Is anyone else experiencing an issue with syncing across their Wanikani API? My keys keep throwing back the message that syncing has failed.

So you could do it like Discourse, where the title part is just cosmetic.

Heya!

One possible cause I can think of is that it can throw an error if you are unsubscribed on MaruMori, the error message isn’t very clear about it. The daily WK sync is a subscribers-only feature at the moment.

In case you are subscribed though, I’d like to check it out! Please let me know your username if so!

Appreciate the help!

With that setup you’d still need to know either the ID or the exact title I’m afraid? A search tool will not work with that either I think?

Aha, many thanks. Yes, the subscriber only bit was the issue.

Thanks for letting me know, sorry for the inconvenience!

We’ve got some awesome grammar, SRS, and reading action for you (as always).
In this week’s batch, learn a new “while” with ついでに, tackle a grammatical behemoth with わけ, and face the “unthinkable” with 考えられない.

Also, with this week’s reading exercise, take a ride on the MaruMori ferry, and go through an emotional roller coaster with Mike, all while practicing your recent grammar, vocab, and kanji!

Speaking of vocab, in this batch, you’ll finally learn a new verb for “to eat”! Who knew there was another one, right?

All of this, and more, awaits you in the Jungle of Tenacity!

Happy studies! :tada:

Welcome to N3 content drop #22, AKA: “the one with だって”.

This week’s community message comes from XtremelyRealUser115, and reads: “Hey, I want more content that has to do specifically with the grammar points ~ないことはない, ~ところだった, ~そうにない・そうもない, and ~だって. And I want them to be explained really well by an イケメン先生 who also tells super funny jokes.”

Thank you XtremelyRealUser115 for the awesome message, and I’m happy to say that we’ve been able to deliver each and every point you requested, down to the smallest detail.

It’s true! This week’s batch features such grammar as ~ないことはない, for things that “could happen”, ~ところだった for things that “nearly happened”, ~そうにない・そうもない, for things that seem “unlikely to happen”, and ~だって, because you didn’t know enough hearsay markers already.

What’s more, check in with the gang on a camping trip, and explore the Japanese tradition of 湯治 (とうじ) in this batch’s reading exercise.

All of this, and more, awaits you NOW, in the Jungle of Tenacity…

Happiest of studies!

Using marumori agan after a 200+ day break.

Im rereading articles, but i have no bookmark function to easily see what article i read last.

or is there a bookmark function i havent seen?

Or have maru jump back to a different spot and have it just move around based on what i have read the last time? compared to now, when its just sitting on the highest progress chapter on each isle.

Hey! Welcome back!

I’m afraid we indeed have no such functionality at the moment, but we do have plans for an alternative (list-like) view for the adventure pages and an on-site notebook where you can put in quotes/important bits from the lessons and get direct links to those lessons that way

How has it been so far? Getting things back on track again?

This week’s batch is packed full of useful grammar such as ~関係がある for “connections”, ~ことに for emphatic statements, and not to mention, an advanced usage of だけ (remember だけ?!).

And in the latest reading exercise, we finally unveil one of the greatest kept secrets of Japanese cuisine: おせち. What is it? Get some reading practice in and find out!

All of this, and more, awaits you TODAY, in the Jungle of Tenacity… (This batch not sponsored by Mr. Ron “Jungle” Tenacity.)

Happy studies!

October 2024 Community Profile Share Roundup!

Hi everyone! This announcement has been delayed a bit due to me getting surgery between writing and posting this, but here we go regardless!

Over on our MM Discord, we have a “share your profile” event on the 1st of every month. Sharing your profile banner is a great way to track your progress and show off your beautiful custom profile share images and statistics.

We figured we’d try something new and make a monthly post on MaruMori, highlighting the progress of some of our community members and fellow Japanese students!

So if you also want to be featured next month, be sure to join our discord and post in the corresponding channel on the first of December emoji-/images/emojis/marumori.png

Hope that gives you some inspiration to also customize your profile and share it with your friends and the rest of the community!

P.S:

We’ll be releasing the initial mock exams for N5 and N4 in the coming weeks! I’m still recovering from the surgery, but we’ll get it out on time before the JLPT!

Next to that, we’re also working on a “MaruMori Wrapped” so that you can see your year in review, as well as some funny (or not-so-funny) statistics about your journey so far! :eyes:

Aaaand next to that, we’ll soon be announcing our new roadmap for 2025 (and beyond)!

More on that soon!

JLPT Mock Exams Release!

After much hard work, revision, tweaking, and tinkering (don’t forget the tinkering!), we’re proud to announce the release of our JLPT Mock Exam feature!

TL;DR: Find them here

These exams are designed to closely resemble the actual JLPT, so each section has the appropriate time limit, as well as type and amount of questions. The scoring is also true to the official format.

We currently have five full exams each for N5 and N4, featuring the vocabulary, grammar, and reading sections. (We’ll have a separate release for listening in the future.) We’re also hard at work on the N3(+) versions as well, for all of you intermediate(+) pandas out there.

The vocabulary section for N5 and N4 has a 20-minute limit and has the following question types:

  • Kanji reading
  • Orthography (choose the correct kanji)
  • Fill in the blank (with the correct word)
  • Paraphrase
  • Usage (N4 only)

Following completion of the vocabulary section, there is a mandatory break. On the actual exam, this break is around 15 minutes, but you can skip it after two minutes on our mocks if you wish. If you do not skip it, it will automatically resume the exam after 15 minutes, so be sure to be back on time from your break!

The grammar and reading section has a 40-minute time limit.

The grammar section has the following question types:

  • Sentence form (FITB for grammar)
  • Sentence composition (unscramble)
  • Text grammar (FITB in a paragraph context)

The reading section has the following question types:

  • Comprehension short
  • Comprehension medium
  • Information retrieval

Grammar Lesson

Every answer on the test is clickable, or you can use the hotkeys “1, 2, 3, 4”. to select answers one through four, and “right arrow” to go to the next question. Once you submit a (full) section, or the time runs out, you cannot return to it.

We’ve also linked each question to its corresponding vocabulary/kanji/grammar point and grammar lesson in MaruMori. So when you finish your test, you’ll see which questions you got wrong (if any!) and will be able to navigate to the appropriate content in need of revision easily.

You can also view all of your past attempts from the results overview, and look at specific exam attempts to see what you may have gotten wrong on each attempt (and hopefully see a better score on every newer attempt!).

Upon passing you will get a bunch of cool things:

  • Achievement
  • Badge
  • Title (that’s right! New titles!!!)
  • Certificate Image (for your profile page, or to share with friends! (People say it’s actually cooler to have the MM certificate than the JLPT one.)

Each level has its own rewards for passing, so be sure to try them all out!

Speaking of passing: Scoring works the same as on the real JLPT. This means you’ll not only need enough points per section of the exam but also get enough points on the exam as a whole in order to pass. The amount of points you need differs per JLPT level. If you wish to read more about this, you can find the official JLPT information about it right here: Clickie

We hope this tool is just what you need to ACE your next JLPT attempt!

For all of you taking the JLPT (and everyone else), good luck and happy studies!
