Lost my 66 day streak! :,D

I’m a level five user and I just broke my 66 day streak, which I had kept up since the day I started WaniKani. I’m a little disappointed, but in some ways it’s kind of good for me to have a reset. I’ve definitely slowed down my progress a lot since entering level 5- I used to be doing all my lessons right away and checking my review schedule so I could get them all done, but for the past two weeks or so, I’ve mostly just been doing a few reviews each day to keep my streak. Obviously I forgot to do that for a few days, so now it’s time to start over. I’ll try to get back on track and beat my previous streak! What has been helpful for you guys when it comes to creating a routine with WK? I don’t want to overwhelm myself by doing too much, but I also want to keep progressing.

For me, it’s been the ability to see a bit of progress with each week that goes by. try reading something - a kid’s book, even. Maybe join the absolute beginners book club.

As you progress, you will notice you can read more and more - and that will motivate you to keep learning.

I think it’s kind of hard to create a proper routine without seeing your own progress, so try putting what you learned to good use every once on a while

I pretty much speed ran when I did the bulk of Wanikani (still have some items left to burn!), so I probably did base my routine around when lessons and reviews came up. But I think what works for consistency is having a particular time of day when you just sit down and do your reviews. It ends up becoming habit.

I like what Bunpro does - they have “streak” but they also have “days studied”, which gives you a better overall picture.

one super important helpful tactic i use is having a mobile app send push notifications when reviews are ready. even if you only ever do your reviews on computer, having the icon sitting there in the tray is a constant reminder to come back every day (especially if you are like me and obsessively check/clear your notifs so frequently that it’s impossible to ignore)

in terms of routine, i’ve simply made a habit of doing my reviews first thing every morning. wake up, eat breakfast, open wanikani. every day, no matter what.

on less busy days i might do reviews more than once a day, especially if i’d done lessons in the morning then i try to get to the first round of reviews in the afternoon for better retention. occasionally i’ll do a third batch at night, but not often… overall i just follow my whims after the morning session, reacting to how easily im able to focus on any given activity

You will get there again one day. I lost my 200 day streak some time ago and now I am back to 130 days. Keep grinding.
