I do understand the general idea but not how it combines with the various sales and multipliers etc… So I never really know what to expect.

How accurate is the history supposed to be in this manga series? Like more or less accurate but with some fictional characters? Or significantly dramatized/sensationalized like a Hollywood film?
It’s part of 角川まんが学習シリーズ which seems to be aimed at schoolchildren. I expect that it’s going to be a bit sanitized and simplified but overall reasonably accurate in the big picture.
I don’t know if this is popular outside of France but this is the type of content I expect:
I noticed that the series covers Japanese history all the way to modern times and I decided to buy the full series because I really want to see how they covered Japanese history in the 20th century. The “Kimiko and Sasuke go do war crimes in China” chapter is going to be lit!
I really cannot decide whether or not to join for this! The sale honestly is ruining me because I feel like I should buy it all if I’m going to join. But then it’s a big investment. But I could only buy one. But then if I love it I’ll have to buy them at full price! So then maybe I should just stay out of it entirely…

I feel like there are sales often enough that you’ll have another opportunity to buy the rest. Maybe buy a few volumes if you want a buffer until the next sale, just not the whole thing.
If you only buy one for now and it turns out you love it, it’s not like you’re instantly forced to buy all of them. Just buy them one by one as long as you feel like you want to read the next, and only buy in bulk if it turns out there’s another sale and you read like 5 of them and want to really commit.
And definitely don’t skip out on something you want to read just because of fear of missing the sale!

Hahaha much to think about. I’m also in the (lifelong) process of reducing my backlog. Personal goal of mine to be at 0 backlog sometime in 2026 but… it’s not looking good

I also participate in too many book clubs at the moment. So I bought the first volume (on sale), because I want to participate in the club, but if it runs as an offshoot I won’t join (so I don’t need to buy the rest of the series now). As the others say, pretty sure the sale will be back, I’ll have time to work on my backlog in the meantime!
I think I’ll join! The nice thing is since it’s history (theoretically familiar 
) if I fall behind this will be one where I wouldn’t have any qualms about skimming certain parts to keep up and stay with the club. Even just focusing on what looks most interesting.
At some point someone had posted about history manga a year or so ago and I went down a rabbit hole parsing Japanese reviews and looking at several series. I can’t find that post and my reply but I found some notes on my laptop and of the 5 series I looked up at the time this was my frontrunner! I asked my Japanese friend about it when we spoke this week and she said, yeah, great quality, it’s from one of the big four publishers she would have recommended for this kind of thing. Her only caution was that the tone will be leaning more towards children’s interests, but I’m pretty used to that in my Japanese reading 
I’m looking forward to it!
