Back to playing normally now that my (parents’) vacation is over. It was nice while it lasted.
Today was my first time hearing Kiryl cast ザキ/ザラキ when I wasn’t controlling him; his favorite spell seems to be スクルト. I wonder if it worked lol. Anyway, I got stuck on a stage so I mostly just completed quests to gain EXP. I’ve consistently been a few levels lower than my new companions (which I’m presuming is the recommended level), and it’s finally bit me in the ass lol

We only just barely made it! And that was like our fifth try! I suppose it’s just good he didn’t say 俺に負けはない this time, which would be a bald-faced lie and he knows it. (In fact, the next one was by the skin of our teeth, too. I am very surprised we actually made it.)

I’ve taken to, when playing as Kiryl, just spamming ザラキ after achieving high tension, so his Coup de Grâce is just a continuation of that lol. The success rate actually isn’t that terrible. Much higher with small monsters than big ones, of course, but I have taken down a handful of large monsters that way. And I’d thought that the skulls appeared when it worked, but it seems it may be random—he does say “消え去れ!” every time it works, though, which is nice, since if you’re casting into a crowd, you can’t always tell otherwise.
If the grottoes were more like the ones in IX, I’d be more inclined to play them, but most of the ones in this game are endless, which gets kinda boring, so I’ve mostly just been pushing through with the main story. It seems I only fail because I haven’t figured out the level yet, so I guess I’m still fine.

Ah, it seems the skulls always appear when ザキ/ザラキ lands, they just often get blocked from view by other monsters standing in the way.
Anyway, I’m a little over 30 hrs in now, and I should just have the final boss left for the main story. I dunno how good that is, but in my first save file (at least on Switch; I initially bought it on Steam, but the controls are very difficult on a keyboard since it’s straight-up just a PS port), I got halfway through in 24.5 hrs. I definitely feel like I’m failing less, though I’m not doing side quests any more, I don’t think.
I wonder if IX will ever get a Switch remake…

I think it’s because I set an hourly goal that’s higher than I would naturally listen during my day to day life (20hours), so I’m getting tired of feeling like I ‘have’ to put on a Japanese podcast/audiobook instead of music, or (gasp) an English podcast, even.
Yaaaay! Haha, the reason I keep listening to yuyu is it’s like, my lowest effort listening, so I’ve been putting it on for longer periods when I don’t feel like seeking out something else.

ふん。大したことなかったな。
Two of us died, Terry.
It may just be confirmation bias, but it feels like he only says this when it very much was a 大したこと. I was gonna say he doesn’t seem like a 強がり屋, but, no, he’s just not one in this way. He absolutely is one, especially before he joins Six’s party, and this version of him is from before that time.
Anyway, I only did one story quest today before doing some side-story and regular quests. You get the strongest (presumably, unless there’s better in post-game) sword and shield for Meer/Aurora and Akuto/Luceus from quests available after defeating the second-to-last boss, and one set is Loto’s/Erdrick’s sword and shield (the other is the 天空のつるぎと盾). Both sets are equippable by both, but I gave Loto’s to Akuto since:
especially with the DQIII勇者 costume, he does kinda look like him…
It is kinda weird to me seeing that sword and shield with this outfit though instead of with Loto’s armor, since that’s what you get in IX. You find pieces of rusted equipment across the Protectorate and use alchemy to restore them. I wanna say it’s not the best equipment in the game, but it’s up there.
I’ve never played III before. I’m definitely planning on getting the Switch remake after it releases.
