Decided to try listening while at the gym today. I got through 10 episodes of The Bite Sized Japanese Podcast. Out of the 90 minutes I was there, I probably listened actively for 60~70 minutes. The level of this podcast is actually perfect for the gym, I can listen intently during my rest periods, but I don’t lose too much information in the 30-60 seconds that I tune out to focus on my exercise. This should be good paired with a little bit of daily challenging practice.

I really enjoy this podcast. Informative but easy to listen to
That’s great!
Nihongo Picnic Podcast episode 1. Feeling mostly good about how understandable it was, though focus fell apart around the 6th minute.

Not bad. After a month off from work I forgot how busy life can be in the evening. Keeping both reading and listening and life stuff ticking along is going to take some readjusting to. I don’t have as much commuting time this year, which is where I got most of my podcast listening in the last few months, so I need to try and make use of chore time for it.
However, more real-life conversation practice from work is good. Plus I can still get the more boring bits of studying done there, which does leave the little time left over purely for the enjoyable bits of Japanese.

Hello everyone. It’s Akari of Slow Japanese. In this podcast, I talk about various topics in slow Japanese. Today, I will talk about home.
What kind of home do you live in, everyone? As for me, I currently live in an apartment. My room is very cramped. In the future, I want to live in a spacious home.
Let’s take a look inside my room. There is various furniture in my room. For example, in the bedroom there are things like a bed, desk, chair, shelves, closet, piano, etc. I use this bedroom as a living room. Therefore, I am always in this bedroom when it is time to work, watch movies, or sleep. Oh, but when it’s time to eat, I’m in the kitchen!
What kind of furniture is in your room, everyone? That’s it for today, thanks for listening until the end. See you soon.

Six more episodes of The Bite Sized Japanese Podcast while gardening today. I like that she doesn’t go very deep into topics, so I can easily tune in and out. Even though the topics are only surface level, for some reason I’m still very interested in someone buying yogurt at the grocery store or getting their flu shot.

I listened to a program about Koyasann and their 117 shrines/temples. They only went to two of them, and there wasn’t much speaking at all, but the scenery was absolutely beautiful and peaceful! So were the shrines!

Less good day in the trackable stuff. Tick tick ticking along.
I did give out my お土産 to teachers today, though, which lead to lots of questions in Japanese about where I got it from, and thus some awkward but passable conversations about going to Shikoku. Helps to make me feel more functional to be able to deal with all the small stuff passably, even if the big stuff is out of reach. Practice practice practice.

「Slow Japanese」
Hello everyone. It’s time for Slow Japanese. In this program, I talk about various subjects in slow Japanese. Today’s episode is about towns.
I’m currently living in the large German town of Düsseldorf. Since Düsseldorf is big, it has a lot of shops. The town center has many people and is very lively.
There is a cafe close to my home. The coffee here is very delicious and the decorations are also pretty, so this cafe is my favorite. There is also a park near my home. Holidays at this park are very busy during early evening. The birds and animals of the park are very cute. This town doesn’t have such things like big mountains or forests, but there is a famous river. This river is called Rhine River.
What does your town have, everyone? Teach me by message please. That’s it for this time. Thanks for listening today too. See you soon.
Just listened to a program about the town of Hino on the Tama River. It was in early days a rice-growing area, with irrigation canals all through town. Then it became a post town with accommodations for travelers. There was a heavy shogunate rule there as well. Very interesting!

Prioritised reading today. Still listened to half of an American Life episode while out walking and watched an episode of 結婚できない just before bed as of writing. This episode of American Life felt quite easy compared to usual, or perhaps just compared to the last episode. Nice.
