Nice! The table in the home post is turning into quite the browsing resource with info on book club + Natively level + jpdb link ![]()
Thanks for setting this up!
I’ve added for:
コンビニ人間
失はれる物語
秒速5センチメートル
小説 言の葉の庭
For books that don’t have a prebuilt deck, one can just create a deck from text right. Open the epub, ctrl-a to select the whole chapter, ctrl-c, ctrl-v. It’s pretty quick, the parser seems to be the same, and you get word frequency too.
Hah! Now why didn’t I think of trying that!?! Good to know now that I’m in the last stretch with the deckless book I’m reading

But no, seriously, thanks for the tip - shall keep it in mind for the next time…
Is that (deck creation without a limit on text size) available to everyone, or only patreon subscribers? (Academic question for me, since I read paper books and don’t have etext of the available to create decks with.)
I’ve tried that too and as far as I’ve seen you can’t share a deck you’ve made, but you can share the text file you’ve used to create it and others can create the same deck.
I had found a plugin to export the deck as a text file too, see: あなたも殺人犯になれる! ❗ (Intermediate Book Club) [completed] - #39 by Akashelia
Added:
私はあなたの記憶のなかに
(Ignore the current Natively level, I requested it there thinking it’d be roughly the same difficulty as さがしもの - L26 but looking at JPDB deck info, it’s likely around L30.)
Now that is a fun addition
or it’s been there the whole time and i just noticed
Don’t remember, most likely I’ve added it when I read it at the beginning of the year! It’s a really nice read, can recommend ![]()
Added:
傲慢と善良
Added 博士の愛した数式
Added:
密やかな結晶
(and fixed the Natively link for 妊娠カレンダー
)
Hi ![]()
When you search up words you have encoutered, do you add them in a customary deck? How do you get them in the review queue ![]()
Hi ![]()
Let me preface by saying that the reason I was doing that was because I was learning words from a Visual Novel, and by design with Visual Novels, it’s not linear in which order you read it. So I couldn’t just add new words the normal way, or it would possibly give me words from a chapter I haven’t played yet.
The “normal” way, which I use for Novels, is as follow. I have the deck added to my list. When you have decks on your list and your pile of review is empty like on my screenshot below, then when you click “Start reviewing” it will question you on cards from the deck on top, where it says “New cards”:
and add those new words to your review queue (unless you mark them as “I know this, will never forget”).
So now I can learn new words for this one book at the pace I want (some people swear by pre-learning words ahead, I’m the opposite, I only add them to my reviews after I’ve read the book).
So now we’re getting to your question ![]()
For Visual Novels, I had the deck already added to my list. But instead of doing “Start reviewing”, I would paste sentences from the Visual Novel (which I would get from textractor) and that would give me this view:
Then I could just add words labelled as “New” to my review queue that way:
Aaah thank you so much!! I have a few decks too but I wanted to just search a word to add (which was not in any deck) and so the “add to front of review queue” option was not there. Appreciate your detailed comment! ![]()
In that case I would probably try “Add to a deck”, probably it makes a custom deck for those words ![]()
I would suggest creating a new empty deck for that (I call mine “misc lookups”), and selecting “pin to menu” in that deck’s config menu. Then when you search for a word in the site the menu on that page will have “Add to: misc lookups”. You can also use “add vocabulary from text” on the deck page as a handy way to add multiple words at once.
Thank youu!!! I will do that ![]()
