Level 27 Plateau

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I just installed some scripts today. Level 27 is turning out to be a wall for me. I’m going to use a lot of the script recommendations that I’ve gotten from the responses to this post to try to make some progress.

I’m in the same boat - I haven’t started a new lesson for days.

I saw this and I had to reply because I definitely understand what you’re feeling—I’ve felt it too. As others have said, installing a couple of scripts (particularly the leech trainer and self study scripts) really give me the extra practice on the items I keep missing. I try to keep my apprentice count under 75 and every day after I do my regular review and lessons I review the leeches (using the self study script and leech trainer) and then review the items I just completed lessons for. I also keep a notebook (actually I’m on my fourth notebook) and write down the the mnemonics, meanings, and readings for items I get wrong several times in a row.

When I began this journey at the end of October 2020 I was SO confident. I knew about 100-150 kanji and had a decent amount of vocabulary knowledge. I’d get 100% on every review session and I was just so pleased with myself. Of course, once I started encountering new kanji and vocabulary that percentage slowly began to decrease. It was pretty discouraging until I realized: Making a mistake on an item just means I get to practice it more. I’m not SUPPOSED to be getting 100% on every review because I am still learning. I’m okay with an 88-94% accuracy rating. I’m sure even once I’ve finished my WaniKani journey there will still plenty to learn and plenty of mistakes to make. Even in English, which is my first language, I still make spelling mistakes or choose the wrong word. Learning is a lifelong endeavor.

Even though it might not feel like it, you are learning every day and you’ll see the results of your hard work in small moments here and there, like when you watch an anime and realize you can read just a bit more of the text than you could before or notice you heard that new vocab word you learned in the previous level. It all adds up bit by bit.

Japanese is NOT an easy language to learn. And look how far you’ve come already! You can do this! 頑張って!

There are some scripts that I encourage you to use like randomise font, pitch accent, and stroke order. They don’t compromise your studying experience in anyway but help enhancing them further.
