Krt100's Study Log 🤖

I tried using them at first, but realized that they only worked on actual e-books with controllable size and font and I only had one e-book. It was way too hard to read, so I didn’t bother with them yet.

Tried default ones while typing this and they are not very helpful if you aren’t a Japanese native or already fluent in Japanese. Haven’t looked into finding custom ones yet (if they even exist).

Weeks 10 - 17 (March 2nd - April 26th)

Summary:

  • activated Vacation mode on WaniKani because I’ll be taking an N5 JLPT exam in July and my current knowledge regarding the Kanji is overkill for it
  • started and finished two books that were in ABBC: チーズスイートホーム volume 1, and ちいさな森のオオカミちゃん volume 1 (still need to go through the threads to learn about the nuances for オオカミちゃん)
  • as already said earlier, I successfully registered for N5 JLPT
  • figured out which cities I’ll visit on my next trip to Japan (staying in Kyoto for one night after landing and to already travel some distance to the south → Nagasaki → Hiroshima → Tokyo → Fukushima); already made reservations for accomodations and plane tickets were already bought back in January, so I avoided the absurd price increases
  • joined three Discord servers for learning Japanese, including “A Durtle’s Refuge” (yes, that was indeed me; not interested in making a second account or paying 100€ a year just to be able to change my profile for different servers)

That’s pretty much what happened since my last report. I also wanted to start practicing my speech with a Japanese native, but my grandma was dying last week and I visited her three times (twice before she passed away, the third time was after to say the last goodbyes). The funeral is planned to be after the Labor holidays in my country.

As a result, I’ve fallen into a slump for a few days and it delayed my plans. Fortunately, I’m slowly getting out of it thanks to the soundtrack from the original Space Battleship Yamato anime from 1974 that I’m listening to at the time of writing this. I’ve forgotten how beautiful it is and motivating at the same time. The original one and its sequels also helped me through dark times in the past, so the soundtrack has an exceptional value to me.

Here’s one example of it:

I think I’ll be okay if I managed to do some Bunpro reviews for the first time in a week while listening to it. The motivation to study will eventually fully return …

Weeks 18 - 35 (April 27th - August 30th)

I completely fell out of posting in my study log, so here is what happened up until now:

  1. Went back to Japan in May - this trip was even better than the previous one for several reasons (being better at talking to natives, easier time navigating around the country due to prior experience).
This time, I was primarily in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Tokyo, and Fukushima. And yes, the trip was nuclear themed (both atomic bomb explosions, the 2011 Fukushima earthquake disaster which involved the nuclear power plant accident as well). One of the side trips involved the Rabbit Island.
Some photos

  1. Took my first JLPT test in July for N5 and passing it. :tada: Will try to go for at least N4 or even N3 next summer.
Score report

  1. Had to reset my WaniKani progress to level 20 because I forgot pretty much anything I studied right before the trip to Japan. In case I will ever travel there again, I will be careful to not study too many new things before activating vacation mode.

  2. Finished the N4 grammar deck on Bunpro last week. For the time being, I will try to read and do immersion for a while.

Overall, I’m doing much better than I was at the time of writing the previous post. :+1:
