Kanji looks different on vocab vs kanj

Hello,

Was doing my reviews and came across “reply” and “adventure”. I got confused though because they look way different. Can someone explain the changes that happen these decisions for updates? I looked at the content update thread but couldnt see anything. Are there a list of other kanjis that got redesigned? I came across those and though like “oh ok, guess I gotta relearn them”. So I just thought it was an inconvenient thing to have to adjust to. If theres any way I can get notified or something, that would be nice.

Thankss

Can you also check 角 and 浅?

It depends on both your web browser / PC settings, and also website design.

  • Chinese variant:
  • Japanese variant:

Top part of 返 is written slant :down_left_arrow: in Chinese, but horizontal :right_arrow: in Japanese (almost opposite directions).

And 直 too, that’s one of the ones that comes up frequently.

I only ever use wanikani on my phone in mobile layout. I never change the setting either. Looking at them again though, they are back to normal now so…idk lol.

Good thing that it’s fixed.

Smartphones and tablets usually default to Chinese, but it’s generally easy for website makers to force the fonts to be Japanese variant. Mobile apps are harder. (Unless you change the whole phone’s language to Japanese.)
