Kaitenji, an upcoming SRS japanese learning tool

That’s true… Looking more closely, Kaitenji’s site is just a marketing page with no further substance behind its promises.

Maybe they regretted going public about their progress? :man_shrugging:

It’s all about pretty artwork (marketing) :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems like they’re aiming for beta soon (at least for the “basic SRS”, not sure what that all entails though):

And another tweet from earlier this month:

Well, I can understand that. But they should put a notice that “this board isn’t updated anymore”, or even take it down. I feel it’s more confusing the way it is.

It shows that you can learn 2500 kanji, 600+ grammar and 8000 vocab plus add your own stuff. If I were a new learner purusing the market I’d probably choose that over WK just based on the numbers. I’d at least try it first.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree. I don’t think the team has been transparent enough with EtoEto. However, at this point, it won’t matter to me since I won’t use it :man_shrugging:

Guys, my site will have 3000 kanji, 1000 grammar, 20000 vocabulary, and you will guest star in your favorite anime series.

Haha! As a developer though I understand why WK is still on 1.3.7 (IIRC). If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and if its broken a little be very careful about fixing it or you might make it worse.

wanikani uses the same characters over and over for mnemonics. every time you have a lesson with Hard gay in it for example, the kanji will most likely be pronounced せい 。This makes it a lot easier to remember. where as Kaitenji seems to have its mnemonics made by the community. so you you will have all kind of mnemonic confusion, when it comes to memorizing pronunciation. every single word/sentence/kanji on wanikani is looked over and is always being refined and combed over, there might be a few mistakes here and there but they get corrected by the wanikani team.I can understand why wanikani hasn’t added any new Kanji recently because there refining the kanji and making it as polished as possible. Wanikani is simply quality amplified over time.:ok_hand:

I like WK’s mnemonics being default/standard, which means there is always something to play off of, but it would be cool to see or replace them with community mnemonics if so desired. There are threads here dedicated to that, but they are rather haphazard.

I also like the option to add your own items, but I don’t think it’s a killer app since you can always just use a different service for other flashcards.

They just got the database working? That’s disconcerting. It sounds like they’re not even close to complete if they’re just now assembling their storage system.

“basic SRS beta” also sounds like…just WaniKani.

Hopefully they’ll be providing their own set of mnemonics as well because you can have community-generated mnemonics without a customer base. Although it sounds nice, it’s going to be a lot of work. I know that I, for one, will definitely not pay money for a service that I have to contribute to their bottom-line by having to compose mnemonics for them.

Or they didn’t make any progress at all…

Nevertheless, SRS (the way people use it) won’t save you from Grammar. Ask Bunpro users if they really know the stuff they learned there.

I’m in to deep to in WK to use this probably, but maybe if they manage to get their act together they’ll spur the WK team to finally let us add our own vocab and kanji to the system.

Yes I know I can use Anki or HouHou or whatever, but WK is clean and has a great back-end (also app accessible) that I would like to work off
