Today has been an okay day, except for my son being a totally moody little monster all day. He’s three though, so that’s more or less to be expected. I had to spend the day entertaining him, but still managed to get all my reviews done on all my platforms, thankfully. Tomorrow my wife is taking him out for the afternoon, so I can have some peace and quiet, which is lovely.

I’ve still not done any BunPro lessons for a while, which I feel a little guilty about, but I’ve been too absorbed watching things, if I’m entirely honest. I will get back on it though, because I need to complete the N5 grammar by November if I want the Absolute Beginners Book Club to go smoothly for me. Also, I’ve really got no excuse after having purchased those dictionaries. Though realistically, the book club is a fuzzy kind of deadline, because it’s going to run over 20-odd weeks and therefore there’s not as much urgency as I seem to be applying. It’s also weird to think, at my current rate, that I’ll probably hit WK level 46-ish by the time that book club ends, which puts the time into perspective.

Right, I’ve finished watching Sword Art Online for the evening, it’s 00:12, and it’s my time to get my son up in the morning, so I’d best hit the hay! Goodnight, forums.

Today has been okay, because my wife took my son out all afternooon and so I had time to get reviews and stuff done in peace and quiet. I’ve also just levelled some more of my first kanji from this level up to Guru and my review count jumped from the 46 I had this morning to 80, so booo, lots more vocab lessons to do tomorrow before I level up on Tuesday morning.

I still haven’t done any Genki lessons, but I’m keeping up to date with all the stuff on Kitsun. Unfortunately, my arm hurts too much to write much more now, thanks arm. Therefore I’ll call this a short update for today and go back to watching the 3rd season of Sword Art Online. I hope everyone is keeping well ^-^

Today has been an okay day, got up late, did all my reviews and then did eighty lessons, so that I can start off tomorrow, when I’ll level up, with less lessons to do. This has left me with a fair few reviews to do this evening, but I’ve left them too late and so will have to do them in the morning before may level up reviews come in at 9am.

I’ve also been doing my Kitsun and BunPro reviews. The funny thing about doing the Prefectures of Japan deck is that I really do feel like I know where places are in Japan more than I do on a map of the UK, where I’ve lived for over thirty years. It’s funny how you can take more interest in the geography of a country that you’re interested in than in your own.

I’ve watched the last quarter of the 3rd season of Sword Art Online (Alicization) and have now started watching the 4th season (Alicization: War of the Underworld) which is still entertaining me greatly. I’ve found watching anime (as somebody who really didn’t much in the past and only dubbed) in Japanese to be great for picking up little casual phrases, as I’ve mentioned, and so I long for the day when I can go sub free and just understand this stuff.

Speaking of learning, I was talking to Kumirei about Japanese courses and found out that I can do free modules from Swedish universities, at least for the time being, so have signed up for a Japanese I module in the spring. Quite how this shapes up with Brexit and if any exceptions or extensions are put in place, I don’t know, but better to try and fail than not bother at all.

About 40mins? They were all from kanji I’d guru’s in the past 24hrs, so wasn’t all that bad. When I was clearing through my massive vocab stack I was doing 60 lessons a day of stuff I’d not seen in six months, haha.

Well, two factors:

The deadline for applications is next week
I’m not doing my part-time cyber security degree at the moment, so have time

Today has been a good day, because I levelled up! If my level were the age of a human, they’d be of legal voting and drinking age here in the UK. My son woke me up at 1am, 3am, and 4am, which was, as you can imagine, irksome. He then proceeded to not wake up till 8:05, which never happens. Because this never happens, neither my wife nor I ever set alarms in the morning. The two factors combined meant a mad scramble to get him ready for nursery and out the door.

Once the mad scramble was over, I got down to the 125 reviews that were sat in my queue and managed to get them all done by 8:55, which is 5mins before my last level 17 kanji came in for review. I guru’d them and then had 93 new lessons pop up. I proceeded to do the radicals and then sat down and did all the vocab lessons. I’ll tackle the 20 radical lessons over the next to days, before the I guru the radicals and have the mid-level kanji lessons appear.

I’m very proud that I’ve managed to maintain a 7-day per level time over the past four levels and I’m feeling good about keeping it up. Lockdown has certain played a part in this, allowing me to use the time my morning commute to campus would usually take to do lessons and reviews. If I do end up having to go back on campus one week out of the month, it might mess with this a little, but since I expect to be getting into the office at around 8:30 and not leaving till 6pm, I should be able to shift some flexitime around during the day to still get the stuff I want done in terms of maintaining speed.

I’m currently on three different leaderboards, which is a bit excessive, but I’m hedging my bets as it comes to the time it’ll take to hit level 60, hehe. I’m fairly certain that I’m going to miss the Luminaries one by a couple of weeks, I’m on track to easily hit the new Olympians deadline, and if anything goes seriously wrong, there’s the Tokyo Skytree one. Whatever happens, with the exception of dramatic total burnout, I should be able to hit one of those goals and use the deadlines to stay super motivated.

Right, now I’ve written that wall of text, I’d better get to my BunPro reviews which I’ve been neglecting in again, to my shame. I need to remind myself that it’s all well and good keeping a good pace with WaniKani, but the grammar is equally important. Unfortunately, I’ve been temped fairly badly by continuing to watch Sword Art Online recently and that’s dragging me away from focussing on other stuff. Still, I’m on track to finish the current season soon, which is likely to free up some time until I start watching something else.

Today was an okay day, woke up feeling a bit groggy because I’ve got a bit of a cold, but soldiered straight on with the hundred and twenty reviews that I woke up with and then set upon doing ten kanji lessons, so now I’ve only ten lessons to do in the morning. My review forecast says I’ll only wake up to thirty reviews, which is much nicer, thank you Crabigator, in your mercy!

I’ve finished all fifty-odd cards in the Prefectures of Japan deck on Kitsun now, which means I’m just left to reviewing them every day until they’ve forced their way into my memory permanently. I’m thinking of trying to get a nice wall map of Japan for some visual reminders once I’ve got them all maxed out level wise, so that I don’t go forgetting them!

I’m eighty cards, or 5.9%, of my way through the Genki Complete deck, so I can focus on that a bit more now that I’ve done all the Prefecture cards. I’ll be getting the Genki books at the end of the month and starting on Genki I, so I should always be a few chapters ahead on vocab if I do a chapter a week or something similar. We’ll see how that goes when it comes to it. By the time I get the books, I should be level 20, which means I should know 95% of the kanji in the books by that point, which just leaves the Kitsun deck for reinforcing the kana only words.

I finished the last episode of second half of season 3 of Sword Art Online today, which I mistakenly called the 4th season in my entry a couple of days ago. It feels sad to finish all those episodes now and have to wait until potentially 2024 for new episodes. That said, there’s going to be the new Progressive series which retells parts of the Aincrad arc that got glossed over in the first season, which is due in spring of 2021, so not that long to wait for something SAO related to watch.

I’m tempted to get the light novels now, after @Redglare mentioned them, but I might wait until my grammar has caught up a bit, since they’ll be a little bit above my level at this point. Given how long it’ll take me to read them, it might well be 2024 by the time I finish in any case, hehe. Now I just need to find the next thing to watch, which is going to be hard because I’ve got way too much in my to-watch lists and it’s a bit of a kid in a candy-shop feeling right now.

Today has been an on and off kind of day, feeling tired, still got a bit of a cold, and it was my ticket day at work. That said, with work over, I’m feeling more relaxed. I’ve been super productive today with housework and stuff, so I guess I should feel like it’s a good day in that regard.

I got up and did all my reviews, then did the last ten kanji lessons and so I’m now officially 0/0 for the first time this level and I’m on a six level streak. Keeping to that target of always hitting 0/0 and maintaining that streak is one of my motivating factors, so it feels good every time I hit it ^-^

Now that I’ve finished watching SOA, I’ve been watching One Punch Man today and have watched most of the season already today, with just a few more episodes to watch tomorrow, but that’ll have to wait, because Critical Role is back with a new episode tomorrow as well as a new episode of The Boys.

Now I’ve written this, it’s time to go tackle my Kitsun and BunPro reviews, at least as many of them as I can get done before bed. I hope everyone is well <3

Today has been okay, not much to do at work and I’ve started playing Genshin Impact as a way to blow off some steam, can’t believe it’s a free to play game with so little actually nagging. Like a free Breath of the Wild. Anyway, I woke up this morning and did my reviews as normal. Then I settled down to watch the new episode of The Boys, forgetting it was the end of season and so I’m not super impatient for the next. I then prepared myself to watch the new episode of Critical Role only to discover they were off for the 2nd week in a row, boo!

I’ve finally signed up for BookWalker and grabbed a bunch of freebies from the thread, though I’m still not quite sure how to work out which ones are temporary ones and which ones are permanent. I’ll find out either way eventually, hehe. I’m a bit behind on my Kitsun and BunPro reviews, but it’s too late to do them now, so I’ll get onto that tomorrow.

I’ve finished watching Season 1 of One-Punch Man and now three episodes into Season 2. I’ve decided that I’ll finally watch Attack on Titan after this, since there’s a new season coming out and I’ve managed to not watch it all this time. On that note, it’s off to bed for me because it’s half past midnight and I’ll have to get my son up in the morning and so don’t want to be super, super tired.

Today has been a meh kind of day, sat on the sofa most of the day with my son who had a flu shot three days ago and was feeling all groggy and tired today. On the plus side, while he slept, I finished watching Season 2 of One-Punch Man. I’ve now started watching Attack on Titan, as I said I would, though the much darker tone is somewhat giving me mood whiplash, haha.

Super-quick update today, because I’m exhausted, but I’ve done all my reviews, etc. and hope that everyone is well <3

Are you planning to get an official degree from Sweden? Or is it similar to a certificate from Coursera or Edx?

That’s the plan, unless fee-free access ends because of Brexit. If it does, I’ll sadly have to drop the idea, but it seemed worth a shot.

It’s feeling much better now it’s been over a week since I had to do that heavy lifting for two days, thank you <3

If you manage to finish some classes before they decide that brexit means brexit you can probably still transfer the credits to a UK university, if you want to continue your studies

That’s true, though there are no universities teaching at distance here, as far as I can tell. Plus, we charge about £9000 a year here -_-

These days education gets a high price tag. It is near unsustainable if one has a family. Hope you get a better price. Is it far lower in Sweden? I know in Germany, tax payers subsidize education from state universities. I don’t know how it works in other European nations . ( I do know top colleges in France charge obscene amounts for an MBA )

Yeah, it’s free in Sweden so long as you’re an EU citizen, which we’re about to not be here in the UK. Germany is free regardless, as I understand it. We have student loans over here which are pretty reasonable; everyone eligible for their first degree, basically just inflation tracking interest. Unfortunately I’ve already got a degree, so I can only study STEM subjects for free, which Japanese isn’t. On top of that, there’s no universities near that do Japanese
