I followed through on my promise/threat and did δΊε vocab lessons today. It wasnβt as painful as I thought and having had them come up for review at lunch and then tonight, has been fine. Tomorrow morning Iβll have the δΊε I did on Monday morning come back for their Guru review, so weβll see how that goes.
I think, overall, that Iβll be able to keep up this pace (I say hopefully) though weβll see how painful the reviews start to look longer term. As things stand, Iβm looking at 108 reviews tomorrow. This number will surely grow as my Apprentice numbers do, but right now Iβm at 129, with my Guru numbers going up, so all seems fine.
I really, really need to start getting back on to grammar, so I should probably commit to doing a bit of Genki I each day and then reinforce with Bunpro, but Iβll see how I feel.
I did another δΊε vocab lessons today. and I didnβt die! I will be getting 219 reviews tomorrow due to all this lesson taking and I suspect that this will be the average number that I get most days from now on. Thanks to not having anywhere to go, I should be able to handle this.
Apprentice numbers will continue to rise as we go forward, which I know may seem alarming to some, is just a product of this clearing through process. Of the Apprentice items I have, 90% are at III or IV, so Iβll be on plan to clear a bunch out by the end of the week.
I entirely failed to do any grammar today, but Iβm going to look at BunPro and Genki a little tomorrow, should I have enough energy to do so and donβt spend too much time POLLing.
I finally got my first 21 kanji from level 13 to Guru, so Iβll do my the remaining 16 of them in lessons tomorrow morning. I should be able to keep up pace with my fifty vocab lessons too since Iβve done fifty a day for the past four and the review rate has been okay. My fingers burning out from typing is my only real worry, haha.
I completely and utterly failed to do grammar on BunPro today, though Iβll take a look at it after Iβve finished this. Iβm still not sure about Genki, since a lot of people recommend using online resources over a textbook, as a sole learner. I donβt know how true that is, but it might mean Iβm better off sticking with LingoDeer and using BunPro for grammar SRS. Iβll have to give it some more thought.
Iβve upped my daily lesson count to ε ε, because Iβve calculated that I can then get all my lessons cleared through by this time next week, as Iβm down to 410 now. I didnβt do the remaining 16 kanji lessons, because Iβve decided to swear off the use of reording scripts, because thatβs how I got in this situation in the first place. That being the case, Iβll be on level 13 for another couple of weeks and then I can finally begin my journey towards sixty again, doing 20 lessons a day and trying to level up in 7d per level.
I once again failed at grammar. Iβve just got so many reviews with all these lessons to do anyting else.
On the other hand, I did get time to do one thingβ¦ I had a βwelcomeβ gif I was using that @MegaZeroX suggested I should change to Japanese. So I got out my trusty Photoshop and gave it a go. Iβm pretty happy with how things turned out ^=^
I quick entry today, because itβs nearly 1am and Iβve spent the last hour fussing with my avatar because Iβm a complete perfectionist who is never happy with design stuff. Yay.
Lessons done as normal, 60 of them, and some reviews sitting in my queue since midnight that Iβm too tired to do now and must therefore face in the morning. Doh. Poor planning, Jerry, donβt stay up so late!
Today was a hard day, woke up to 100 reviews, then had to do my 60 lessons while putting up with my son (who is three) being all crazy, so that was fun and certainly helped my retention, Iβm sure.
Anyway, I got the lessons done, then my wife, my son, and I headed out for a family trip to IKEA. Then found the queue was too long to bother, so went home. Fun, fun, fun. I then wanted to do my reviews, but we had some garden work to do, so the reviews had to wait and stacked up to another hundred to do once my son had gone to bed. Then I had another 80 come in through the evening. Save to say these lesson reviews are adding up and will continue to do so - but we shall persevere!
Tomorrow is a bank holiday, so I donβt have work (yay) and where I work (University of Bath) has a policy where we get an extra day off after bank holidays, so I get TWO DAYS OFF, whooo! More time to study all this and clear through my queues without worrying about work.
On that note, I should sleep. Goodnight study log.
This is many daily reviews for a full-time job and family to take care of.
This is a high apprentice count == large number of reviews.
I am not in your shoes but it appears to me that your strategy for doing lessons naturally leads to a large daily reviews build up. Are you sure you are OK with this?
Edit: I have read your previous posts and found this.
I think you have miscalculated the impact of this strategy on your review pile. Raising your lesson count for a reason like this is not worth the grief you are causing yourself.
I second prouleauβs concern. Youβre going to have that huge lump of items come back again later as well which can be demotivating in the future. Perhaps hold off on any lessons until apprentice items are back to 100, then do 20 per day until you catch up.
I genuinely appreciate your concern and I want to assure you that I do fully understand the amount of reviews that will come backβ¦ and that they will do so in waves over the next four to six monthsβ¦ AND that these numbers of reviews will be on top of the number of naturally occurring reviews that come from the process of levelling. I definitely wouldnβt recommend this for most people, but I know for a fact that Iβll be working from home past the end of the year, and my son is in nursery all week, so with the exception of weekends where the reviews might stack up a little, Iβm confident of the time I have to complete the reviews and the number Iβm able to do in a day without feeling overloaded.
This is my current review levels per day, projected over 14 days, after doing over 300 lessons in a week. Even if each day had 300 reviews on, which might well be the case, this would still be at a level where Iβm confident of my ability to complete them. Having come back from times when Iβve taken breaks and had stacks of nearly 1000 and just over 600 reviews to do, and reduced these down in a matter of days, Iβm concious of my own limitations, but aware of my own propensity to do better when I push myself towards goal.
As you wish. I will just point out that you should reduce the brunt of
this workload by doing 30 lessons a day without much of an impact on the
date of the lesson backlog elimination.
I hereby bestow on you my full permission to tell me how you told me so and how I fully deserve the pain Iβm suffering, should I come back and complain excessively about it ^-^
Today has been a much more favourable day, for my son is at nursery and I donβt have any work!
ββββ ββββ
I woke up to 130 reviews, which I got done by 10am and then did my lessons for the day. I had another hundred reviews come in during the day and then about 50 more this evening, but I have had nothing but time, so Iβm thankful for things to do. So itβs WaniKani + watching Fringe.
I have tomorrow off too, which is nice, because I can do more of the same.

Great study log! Iβll be following your progress!
P.s., if you ever feel like catching up with the Swedish again, give me a shout (Iβm a Swede/American living in Sweden). Jag hjΓ€lper dig gΓ€rna!
P.p.s. I have a Discord group with Japanese and Swedish learners (with natives in both languages) that meet up over video call sessions once a week. If youβre interested in joining, for some conversational practice (or just to chat with natives in the Discord server), give me another shout!
I might pick it back up if WK ever slows down, but Iβve also got my part time degree university course starting back in October, so goodness knows how much time Iβll have
Iβm posting this the morning after I usually would, without any shame because it means that I actually got a comparatively early night, so go me! Today was another day off from work and I just found out that tomorrow will be too! The education sector just keeps on giving; and I shall keep not complaining!
Today was a good day, with reviews coming in steady smaller batches instead of clumps, which was nice, because I largely do reviews the moment they come in at the moment and therefore appreciate them being drip fed. My lessons were done just before lunch, so I saw them back at at 4 oβclock and Iβll see them all first thing in the morning.
Three days left and these lessons will be cleared and Iβll be at 0/0 for the first time this year!

Today was as good as yesterday, with a whole lot of reviews, but feeling good and just pushing through doing them as has become habit every morning. Followed up with my lessons as per usual and with 113 left, Iβve just two days of doing lessons; 60 tomorrow, 53 on Friday, and then Iβll have just under four days of not having to do any lessons until I hit Level 14 finally. Iβve been on Level 13 for 60 days now, making it my 2nd longest on-level period since I took the seven month break at Level 10.
My levelling time really has been all over the place in the past, as my study was up and down from always doing stuff on time, to only checking in when I had time. The 8 days on level 11 highlighted how motivated I was after clearing all my reviews after my break, while the 15 days on 12 highlights how unfocused I was during the middle of lockdown. Once I hit level 14, I hope I can keep to that 8 days median and draw my mean average closer to it.
In order to help with the number of lessons Iβm doing and the amount of memory itβs taking up in my head, Iβve created a kitsun.io account today and have created a βWK Failed Itemsβ deck, using the great function the site has to create cards from the built in Jisho dictionary lookup.
I fail an item in a review.
I copy the kanji or vocab into the dictionary search field
Click the button on the listing to create a card
Click to confirm and boom, itβs in my desk so I can do the extra reviews.
All in all Iβm already feeling the effect on a couple of new vocab items that I failed the first apprentice level up on. The kitsun timings are perfect for getting a review on there before you get it up for review again on WaniKani.

Today was a review filled day, woke up to 130, then had to do 20 more when I finished those. Once Iβd worked my way through all of those, putting any failed items into my Kitsun deck, I got to my lessons. Sixty lessons down means Iβve only got fifty-three tomorrow, my last batch from what was a pile of 600. Iβll then have those four days without lessons, whoop whopp.
Once I level up to 14, Iβll do my kanji and radical lessons that day and then split the 120 vocab lessons that will be unlocked over the coming seven days, so just 17 a day. A much nicer pace than the 60 a day Iβve done to get up to speed. That will mean that my apprentice and guru numbers will fall even further and see less reviews; also nice! In fact, my apprentices have gone down significantly today and my guru up as well as seeing sixty-four items going up to master!

Iβve also been keeping up with my Kitsun reviews, Iβve now got 122 items in my βFailed WaniKani Itemsβ deck, which is where I stick any item that I fail on review. Since each of these items starts at an Apprentice 1 equivalent level, if I fail a Master level item on WaniKani, Iβll see it about 4 times on Kitsun before it comes up for review again on here.
I finally hit 0/0 today for the first time in as long as I can remember and the feeling freedom is very nice. I should have done this a long time before! My take away from abusing the re-order script is this; donβt do it, it just makes life much harder in the long run. Now I just have to deal with the review cascade that will come from so many lessons.
Iβm also giving myself extra reviews, in the form of Kitsun, which seems counter to logic, but the extra SRS reinforcement of the handful of items Iβm struggling with means I see them more often and they donβt become leeches. I struggled for a long time thinking that keeping to WKβs extract SRS intervals was important, but since Iβve become aware that extra study is not a detriment, Iβve seen the benefit in it.
Iβm writing this late today, because I got distracted watching Fringe and so since itβs the 5th in the UK, I can wish @Whologist a very happy birthday! ^-^
Today Iβve been taking care of my son all day while my wife does her craft stuff, but Iβve managed to get all my reviews done on here and on Kitsun and Iβve managed to shift 120 items from Apprentice to Guru, so my Apprentice levels are dropping down nicely. Not bad for a busy Saturday, in my humble opinion.
I decided today that Iβm going to do one of the absolute beginners book clubs in November, not sure which yet, maybe both (since not everyone wanted to do the 10 short biographies and some people wanted to read a Dragon Ball one.) Itβs been said that being Level 18 on here should mean that I know all the Kanji in books for that age group, so hereβs hoping I hit that by then. At a rate of a level a week, I should be fine, and I plan to hit that rate from now on.
Tomorrow I have barely any reviews due during the day, only 30 total, less than 10 per hour, from 3am to 4pm, with 95 coming in at 8pm, just in time for my evening reviews. Itβs awfully nice to have the number of reviews drop now that Iβve got so many items out of Apprentice, though Iβve got a busy 225 review day on Thursday due, but thatβs spread over the day nicely, so I havenβt got a problem with that.
All in all, very happy with how things are going, though tired, so now Iβll hit the hay ^-^
Today was a day with almost no reviews until 8pm, when unfortunately I had a officers meeting for my World of Warcraft guild. So when that was finished, I leapt straight on a mowed through the hundred reviews. When that was done, I switched over to Kitsun and cleared through the hundred or so reviews I had there.
With my reviews done, I relaxed back into re-watching Fringe and basking in the joy of the 0/0 life that continues. Iβve also now started doing my Bunpro reviews more regularly, so Iβm going to split my little stat block at the top of my posts to now have WaniKani on the left and BunPro on the right to give myself some motivation and accountability towards getting these done. Iβll be honest, Iβve been sat on 12/111 N5 for the pastβ¦ umβ¦ as long as Iβve had BunPro, because I think I did those lessons the first day I signed up!
Iβve also been doing LingoDeer again, and Iβm going to do one subject a day, today: Possession 2
