Japanese Resources?

Hello! I’ve been doing Wanikani for a bit now and started Bunpro recently.

I’ve been learning an N5 deck on Bunpro, to do grammar, but I feel textbooks are better at teaching me after doing some Genki lessons. I honestly don’t know what to focus on, especially in terms of grammar and don’t know what I should be using for stuff other than kanji right now. Does anyone have any textbook recommendations or anything else?

I like Japanese From Zero, books and videos.

I also use Japanese from Zero. You can find the Videos on YouTube. If Money doesn’t matter I would recommend the physical Version and Not the eBooks, because the eBooks aren’t the newest Version because of piracy.

I personally used Genki. Since it’s so popular, there are a lot of tools that have been made to go along with it; I’ve found a lot of use in Tokini Andy’s youtube series:

He explains each lesson in Genki one by one. Afterwards, you can do the textbook exercises online at this website:

Thank you for introducing me to the resources available! I didn’t know a lot of this stuff existed.

Bunpro has Genki decks too
When I started using Bunpro, I went through the textbook decks for the books I was learning with (Genki 1&2, later Tobira, Marugoto and Quartet). It is a great combination and lets me find out directly if I misunderstood a grammar point in the books. There is no need to fly through bunpro and after finishing the textbooks (or when preparing for the JLPT) you can still go back and complete the JLPT decks.

Yeah, I’m definitely considering switching my decks to ones from my textbook, although I’m not sure what I should do with my current progress on the JLPT N5 deck.

If you just remove e.g. N5 decks from your lessons and add different ones, it should work just fine. The progress of items you already started reviewing should be shared with the new deck. And if any specific items don’t stick, you could remove them from reviews individually. Good luck!

progress made is progress made - you can keep it as is and just put the n5 deck in an inactive status to stop lessons (but keep reviews).
Bunpro grammar points are the same throughout all decks, so you will keep your progress and just the order of introduction will change due to the deck you actively work with.
If you feel overwhelmed by some grammar points, you can also reset them and then restart them when you tackle them in the textbook lessons.

Sounds good, I think I’ll switch my active deck tomorrow then.

Thanks everyone for the valuable info!
