Is 後で wrong?

後で is listed in the vocab section as “after”… But isn’t that just 後 (あと)?

Did you try looking up 後で in a dictionary? It means after.

I see both of them meaning “after”, so I thought that 後で might be more of a phrase / compound word, with で being a particle rather than part of the word. Guess that was a wrong assumption. Thanks for the quick response.

Is there any difference between the two though when the 後 is used in the context of “after”?

is 助詞〜 so yes is particle〜

is simple〜

i don’t know what this correct in english terms〜

actually using 「後」is very broad usage〜 your question is looks simple but actually is contain many context but im will try to explain the most usual〜

here some context explanation ↓ ↓ ↓

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
後で is 【その後】
is like later on、afterward specifically time for time 【時間】(じかん)

example:
じゃ、またまた後で〜 (see you later!)
後で連絡します。(i’ll contact you later)
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

後【あと】
is can used for explain sequence/ordering 【順序】(じゅんじょ)

example:
の章で (あとのしょうで)→ in later chapter
の話で (あとのはなしで)→ in later story

is can used for tell next occurrence 【次の】(つぎの)

example:
やめるつもりはない、もうがないんだから!! → i won’t give up because there’s no next time!!

is can used for tell the rest 【残り】(のこり)
example:
は私に任せて〜 (あとはわたしにまかせて)→ leave the rest to me〜
はその意見に賛成です。(あとはそのいけんにさんせいです)→ for the rest im agree for your opinion

well actually there is a lot possibilities、can describe future action、passed away condition、further and many more〜

my explanation is cheap、but hope is helps〜♪
