I’m sure you’ve had plenty of responses by now, but I’ll add my answer to the “yes” column. I took Japanese in university for 3 years and studied abroad in Japan for 6 months. (all 10 years ago, so I’m admittedly a bit rusty.)
My ability to read kanji has increased significantly after just a few months of wanikani. You have to pair it with some actual reading to really get the full benefit, but it’s absolutely been worth the price for me.
