Is this supposed to be a Kanji?

The English subtitles give ‘SHERIFF’. Japanese subtitles don’t say anything for this picture so Japanese viewers are supposed to understand it. (It is a Japanese series.)

But which kanji is this?

BTW I didn’t particularly like this episode.

You mean it is 保? That’s a weird 木 radical. But yes, it could very well be.

The right branch of the tree doesn’t fit with the stroke order, but perhaps trees were different in the good old times of the Wild West?

And the mouth radical is broken… I guess that implies that a sheriff would have to participate in many fights and brawls… A leader with a broken mouth who hits criminals with the force of a falling tree…

Well, who else would’ve broken his mouth? She’s his oldest nemesis. Every time he steps out of his office, there’s Mrs. Chou, standing in the street at high noon.
