Is this right?

I can’t help but think that 「コウイチは鼻の下が非常に長い」 means that Koichi’s mustache is ridiculously large, lol

「鼻の下が長い」is an idiomatic expression that means “soft on women.”

Jisho entry

Adding a 非常に in there just makes him “very” soft on women.

I thought so, but I couldn’t help but share that, I laughed so much, lol

Anyway, thanks!

I mean, if you read it literally, 「鼻の下が長い」is basically “Lower nose is long.” If we’re talking about being soft for women, that could potentially make sense in a rather… unorthodox way.

Kind of reminds me of that whole “Human Horn” episode of Futurama, actually.

I can imagine Koichi running for president and getting into an argument about his nose size.

下の鼻 would translate to ‘the lower nose’
鼻の下 is ‘below the nose’

so either the philtrum or mouth or whole body is long, and that means you’re soft on women

Philtrum? Is he the long-lost brother of Phil Collins?

yes. no. It is that part between your top lip and nose. (I knew it had a name, but I had forgotten it, so I looked it up). It’s the part of your face that closes up last while in the womb (or didn’t, if you have a cleft lip)

The medical term is “snot irrigation”

There’s a similar expression 鼻の下を伸ばす, which means to ogle. Japanese people use the characteristic of your 鼻の下 being “longer” than normal to describe sexual interest. If you’re just stretching your 鼻の下 temporarily (伸ばす), it means you’re being particularly sexual at that moment (ogling). If it’s always long, however (長い), it describes a personality trait (easy to seduce/soft on women).
