Is the "について" necessary here?

私の後について繰り返してください

It sounds more natural to just say 私の後を繰り返してください.

And may you please recommend reading resources on について?

Thank you.

This is the same sentence as the first one.

Xについて is usually used to say “about X”

That doesn’t make sense here. Unless there’s some weird grammar I don’t know about with this, it sounds more like 付くis used without the kanji.

私の後に付いて繰り返してください。
Follow after me and repeat what I do.

Could be wrong tho. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I edited my question. And I read it in the Kanji Study app.

But my sentence means “repeat after me” which, i guess, needs more context

You’re thinking with your English brain.

Think about it this way.
後をする
Do an “after”.
Makes no sense, right?

Repeating an “after” also makes no sense.

私の後に in this sentence has kind of a “watch what I do, and then do it” feel.

Not only does that not sound to natural to me, I’m not sure it’s even correct Japanese in the first place.

〇〇の後について should get you some results on Google for example sentences and explanations. Just searching について is going to get stuff for “about” which is not what this is.
