[iOS] Tsurukame - native app with offline lessons and reviews

Just wanted to pop on here again and say that now that all the userscripts are broken I am so grateful to have this app! The font randomizer, undo, lesson picker, are all so amazing to have! Thank you! Also just throwing it out into the ether one more time if there’s a way to incorporate pitch while doing lessons or reviews I will literally only ever use this app until I’m level 60! All the best!

I’d like to second (or third or n+1) this request. I recently ordered a book on phonetics and I’ve heard good things about this script. It’d be harder to implement I think, but maybe it could be incorporated with lessons as a toggle able option. So many readings are tied together like this that it really makes sense to teach on’yomi using phonetic components. It might go against the spirit of making mnemonics out of English words that wanikani is built on, but it could be better.

It makes sense if this isn’t a priority or isn’t easy to do. It’d be nice to have though. Thanks for the app.

HI! First of all I want to say thank you SO MUCH FOR THIS APP. It has made it really easy to do reviews, especially offline. I really appreciate your hardwork. I have a feature request, you could say it is a huge one for that matter but if it’s not feasible to implement, then that is completely understandable.
Is it possible to add custom vocabulary to the already pre-existing vocabulary and then practice them as if they came from wanikani itself? (i.e gets treated like wanikani originated vocab and utilizes the SRS). I use satori reader for reading and I get introduced to new vocab but learning vocab and doing reviews around two different apps is draining and for the past 3 days I’ve been thinking and looking for an extension that could help with this as I really like wanikani’s SRS system and the tsurukame app. Hell, I’ll join you to work on it if you need extra hands haha (i’m serious). Please let me know!

Is there a way to change the autoplay audio so it only plays the masculine voice rather than a mix?

Since I switched to the anki mode, each time I finish reviews after the last item the app crashes. iOS 17.6

This should be reported to the WK team, that means they messed up the tags on the site and the browser just so happened to parse it well enough.

AFAIK Tsurukame will only process an item once offline to prevent failure in syncing out of order (e.g. one lesson or one review)

Almost two years using this app and now I realized there is a cool dark mode  My eyes are greatful!

Hi! This app is so wonderful I’ve been using this in tandem with the WK browser version. I usually use this when I do my morning reviews while still in bed.

However, would there be a future option of Anki mode only for meanings? I tried the Anki mode for readings+meanings, and it was nice. But I feel like I would forget to type the reading if I just anki it all the way during reviews. And writing the meanings… let’s just say I type better in browser. So it would be nice to have this feature on Tsurukame.

i feel like anki kindaaa sucks though, dont ya think? i feel like studystack is much better or maybe just cause i couldn’t really understand anki/download it on my chromebook like 4 years ago so i just found other resources

I think Anki is pretty ok. I’ve used it on and off pre-pandemic. Its great and damning feature is I have too much freedom. There are so much Anki decks to download that I have spent more time downloading the decks and setting it up, but never really going through then. I had reformat my laptop and all those anki decks were gone in my pc. I know I could probably log in my account but I just got lazy. I guess I overwhelmed myself with so much decks :joy_cat:

On the other hand, I haven’t heard of studystacks. Is it like anki with its own application? Or is it web based?

uh its like anki but for chrome and a better interface, IMO

it doesn’t have allll the possibly as anki since many websites support anki like notion, wk and bunpro- don’t quote me on the last one but still

pretty nice, here ill give you my profile…

Ohhh I’ll check it out after work. Thanks for sharing it!

For me, I think I like to use apps where every thing is laid out for me. For ex, I wanted to use Notion to track my projects at work, but instead of creating my own template, I just searched for a template and used it :joy_cat:

your so real for that LMAO
i do the same thing, that’s why i (stole) this one

I’ve been warned that because of the way Notion is, the learning curve is quite steep. Even the act of using a template was puzzling for me. It’s like being a noob at computer and learning the controls for the first time. Btw I see those different templates at the left side :eyes: that looks so organized. Do you mind sharing the templates you used? Haha

Going back to topic, I read that Flaming Durtles have anki mode for meaning. And one of the level 60 users here said something so profound that typing “with all one’s strength” as meaning for 力いっぱい just takes so much time. But the problem is I only have iOS devices and we only have Tsurukame for this. Tsurukame has anki mode for both reading and meaning and I was wondering if they can separate it :face_holding_back_tears:

It is the app for iOS that’s integrated with WK :joy_cat: and the topic of discussion haha
It looks similar to WK like this:

Except not really since it has its own interface and all. But it syncs with my WK and it enables me to do reviews even when I’m not in my PC.

It’s all good :smile_cat: Don’t worry about it. I was hoping the Tsurukame creator would reply to my inquiry.
