Still loving this app and using it daily (of course). Love the new vocab by readings setting.
A few notes of feedback, if I may:
For Anki mode, the option to have the pitch diagram on the answer card is really cool, but it also shows up on the meaning answer card which spoils the reading if it comes after. I’d love if this option only showed on the reading card or combined card if that’s enabled!
On Android, I have a weird issue that when I open the app, the amount of reviews says something large like 271 until the page has fully refreshed. It also has the wrong amount when I return from doing reviews (I tend to do mine 20 at a time so that I can knock them out in small doses during the day). This has only started happening somewhat recently (maybe a month ago?), and I wonder if others are having issues.
I’m still having an issue where the app is laggy when it comes to loading audio samples on Android. I have the offline audio turned on, but I have to wait several seconds for the app to become responsive when tapping the audio playback button during lessons.

I’ve fixed point 1, and added an attempt to fix 2 and 3, but these last 2 I cannot test because they seem to be Android specific (and I don’t own an Android device so I cannot test it ). Hopefully this patch fixes it
Hi, thanks for the prompt response!!! Here’s a quick video of the loading lag in lessons. As soon as I get to the readjng page here, I tap the Kyoko audio button. The black loading screen when I swipe over is new.
Thanks for this app! I started using it for English → Japanese practice after coming from Tsurukame. I really like the extra practice options and think they’ll help with vocab recall when speaking.
The main issue I see with the English → Japanese support is it doesn’t seem to handle synonyms. I think it’s picking a kanji vocab word, then asking you to guess the word from its English meaning. But if English meanings map to multiple words, only the picked one will be “correct” according to Kakehashi. I think any word with the asked meaning should be a valid answer, as the mapping isn’t 1:1. So it should select from Wnglish meanings and accept any valid Japanese translation.
Some examples:
“Subtraction” can map to 引き算 or 減法; I got this “wrong” answering 減法.
“Comedy” can be 喜劇 or お笑い. I answered お笑い and it was “wrong”.
I’m sure there are more. It would be nice if there was an option to show synonyms that would’ve been accepted after you answer, as well, but I’d be happy if it just accepted any of the possible Japanese translations for an English word.
Is there an easy way to see how many current items are apprentice/guru etc? I generally like to keep my apprentice level below 100 so I don’t add too many new items.
If you don’t see these, you can add them in Settings > Appearance > Home Customization. There you can add the “SRS breakdown” and customize it however you want
Hello everyone!! Sorry for not been super active recently, I’ve been traveling a bit, but from mid-September onward I should be back on track with the daily updates.
It is still pretty early access, and I’ll probably create a new separate thread when it is fully ready for everyone but I wanted to give you guys some early access to it so I can get early feedback.
It has most of the features from the app + some new ones
All of the games available on web should also be available in the mobile app. The crossword should be in the “Extra study” carousel in the home screen if you scroll right a bit, and the NHK news (both easy and standard) are in the “News” tab.
If you don’t see the “News” tab, then go to Settings > Appearance > Customize tabs > Enable News
And if you don’t see the “Crossword” gamemode in the Extra study carousel, then go to Settings > Appearance > Home Customization > And add it in the “Extra study” section.
But both of these should be enabled by default, if you still don’t see them make sure you have the latest version of the app.
Thanks for doing that! I’d also like to flag that the same issue occurs when returning from doing reviews. I have my reviews set in batches of 20 at a time (breaking tasks into chunks for ADHD) and when I return it takes quite a while for the list to correctly refresh from some large number.
This is still an issue, I’m afraid. I wish there were some better information I could give you! What’s odd is that I have the app on my PC using an emulator and it doesn’t have this issue at all!
