You should be added now too!
No, shouldn’t be too hard, though I can’t add this with OTA updates, so I’ll have to go through the App Store review process which usually takes a few days. I wasn’t going to add this until the work to make the app available offline was done (because now, you can’t do lessons or reviews in the app when offline, only some extra study modes work). But if you want this I can have it available in the next few days
Currently you can’t though I’m planning to add translation to the epub too. The problem is that it’s not as simple as with the short article news or the song lyrics. Translating a full epub would take a loooot of time. I’m thinking of adding a way to let the user select sentences and translate them, but not sure if this is what you expected.
Also thanks for the recommendation!! I’ll take a look and see if I can get some inspiration to improve the current epub reader
I just downloaded the app and it looks amazing! Thank you so much for this. Quick question, is it possible to have the news also show the standard NHK articles and not only the easy ones? I’m in the awkward phase where NHK easy is too easy and NHK news by itself is a bit too hard.
That would be awesome! To be able to do study, reviews, lessons, games, etc with the auto audio playback (after submitting the correct answer) would make this app even better!
Thanks for listening to our feedback!
Sorry, I don’t know if I missed a message or did not understand something correctly.
I am added to the waitlist, or is there already a link to get the Android version?
Thank you so much for this perfect app!!
I was wondering, is there a way to flag errors in the anime listening exercises? (sometimes the text doesn’t match the audio, for instance there is a Shirokuma excerpt for 日本語 that doesn’t contain the word at all).
I don’t know if this type of stuff belongs in issues/where to let you know/if it’s helpful at all ![]()
Thank you for the feedback! Lucky you, I still don’t have that issue (can’t fully read NHK Easy news without a few lookups).
Will definitely try to add this to the app soon!! I know that it is a bit trickier to get the NHK news vs the NHK Easy, so it might take a bit longer, but I’ll do my best!
Got it working!! Should be available soon (as soon as the update gets approved). Still only the extrar study is available offline, but I’m working on making the app fully available offline
Yes, sorry, the message on how to do this got a bit lost in between, so I’ll add it to the main post too. I’ve added your email to the closed beta testers, so now you should be able to download it here (if your play store account has the email you added to the sign up form, otherwise you can add a new one and I’ll add you)

Thank you so much for the feedback!! ![]()
Unfortunately, the audios from anime come from a third party I’m using called ImmersionKit. So I don’t really have control over those, and I couldn’t find a way to report wrong audios on their website.
Perfect, thank you so much! Will try it right now!
Thank you so much!
Looking forward to the update!
Looking at your updates is one of my favourite things about the app
thank you for being so responsive and developing such an amazing platform.
I couldn’t quite work out how to get the links translated, would you mind showing where this is? If it can work for other urls in the future, that would be amazing!
thank you again for all your work
Hello, a few issues I noticed while using the app on Android.
-
Minor issue, the bar between categories slides back. see photo.I’m on the “reading” page but the bar is closer to “meaning”.
-
When typing the reading, I use a regular keyboard and the app automatically changes it to kanas. But it tends to add letters in between. For example, when I type “en” for えん, it writes ええん, with 2 え.
- The buttons at the bottom of the screen are blocked by my phones’s menu buttons. Yours is not the only app with this issue, but I can’t find a way around it and it can be quite annoying.
All that said, I love the app and must hold back on passing too much time on it! Thanks!
1.4.1 is out now on iOS. It has the feature to download the audios, but SRS reviews and lessons are still not available offline. That requires a bit more work. You can still do custom reviews and lessons or other quiz types offline.
Hey!! There is really no entry point to this screen within the app. The only way to get here (currently) is by sharing the tweet with the app:
As for supporting more urls, I do want to add support to more, but the only place I generally get japanese text right now is on Twitter. But if anyone has some website they usually read in japanese, I can add support for that too, so feel free to leave suggestions here or in the app
Heyy!! Thank you so much for the feedback!! The app is currently on review for play store, and apparently it will take around a week, so can’t really fix these on Android until that is done, but will get to these as soon as I can.
Oh that’s just amazing! Thank you so much, didn’t even think about doing it that way, this app just keeps giving!!
The widget seems broken for me on iOS, it’s just black. Is this an issue with my phone or a bug? No big deal of course haha, but I like seeing the cute little guy.
