:star_struck:

why am I so excited when I’m not even voting

Also Discourse is telling me off for replying to you three times in this 1820-message thread. Quelle horreur!

C’est tellement cruel :frowning:

Also, why aren’t you voting? You really don’t think you can join? :slightly_frowning_face:

deshou :pensive:

I’ll try to read along if I’m interested in the winner, but I’m already super behind on Aria.

My memory is crap, but I think I initially read a sample of land of the lustrous because (I think) you asked about how hard it would be. Is that one you’d read along? :eyes:

I did, and you did!

Probably, yep - I’m really interested in that one and reckon a manga would be much more manageable, though there’s no precedent for how fast you guys will tackle it

Updated the OP with the difficulties and vote counts. It might change between today and tomorrow, but I don’t think it will be anything major anyway…

Edit: gaaaah, I didn’t pay attention, and wrote the total number of answers to the poll rather than the number of meaningful votes… Well, at least difficulties are correct.

I really have to decide what grammar books to get next because I wanted to order them along with the winner (and others I’m interested in) from here. Decisions decisions…

I also bought 君の名は while in japan but haven’t gotten round to reading it. There must be a disease spreading.

Personally though, I hope something like 紅霞後宮物語 or 君の膵臓を食べたい wins.

紅霞後宮物語 seems like it would be interesting to discuss due to the politics and alternate history, and I would never read 君の膵臓を食べたい on my own because it seems really heartbreaking. :worried:

Of course I wouldn’t complain if a book that I already own wins :smirk:

どっちにしても、みんなと一緒に本を読むのが楽しみにしている。
初めての参加なので、よろしく頼む!

I’m really interested in your name. and wolf children ame & yuki. 紅霞後宮物語 seems very cool too, I love strong female protagonists :relaxed: I’ve heard some very cool stuff about land of the lustrous but I would prefer to read a novel…
But no matter which book wins, I’m very excited about this  can’t wait

When are we planning to start the book?

I don’t think anyone has said anything about when to start(or at least I forgot about it if they did!), aside from that we probably should wait long enough for everyone who wants to join to be able to get the book that wins. At the very least, I don’t think any concrete plans have been made yet.

Agreed. Plus waiting that long also guarantees it’s after we’re done 時をかける少女 in beginner book club, which is good.

I’m itching to start, but for sure waiting a bit longer is probably wise. I still have my current Japanese read to finish off anyway. Does anyone have a rough time frame? I think I’ll get the kindle version. I downloaded the free sample before and wow I gotta say reading Japanese with a kindle and it’s built in dictionary is a breeze. A breeze for someone in kanji hell at least (just about any relief is welcome at this point. but I’m pushing onwards and upwards xD)

Best guess would be beginning of March.

Yes, I was thinking one week after the beginner book club, so that people who are on the line can still try to join both without being overwhelmed at once.
(Plus enough time to buy stuff, etc)

So, weird question, but would anyone be interested in trying to do a discord thingy where we read a chapter out loud together once a week for the next book? We could take turns reading sections out loud and then stop when people are stuck on meaning. The hard part for that is time zones, but it was pretty fun the one time I did something like that. Plus the people who had a better understanding of Japanese could give neat explanations to the people like me who think that grammar is a type nasal decongestant, which was cool.

That could be pretty painful when you have people like me on the lower end of the intermediate spectrum asking a bunch of questions.

Beginner book club is set to start the next book on March 2nd, so March 9th sounds good for a tentative start date here. I’m assuming the poll is opening within the next day and will stay open for around 3-4 days?

Well, I am probably low intermediate as well. We could try it once and see how it goes. It all depends on the level of the group relative to each other probably. I think generally the people that know things like to share them.

Yes

No it’s okay that’s what we want.
