I'm bad at remembering

Sometimes i’m pretty bad at remembering - and I want to improve this. A few weeks ago, I was watching ‘Abroad in Japan’ on YouTube (with Chris Broad) and in one of his video’s he was talking about books about training his brain so he could study a lot better.

Does anyone has experiencing with this or just overall tips to improve my studies?

Thank you very much.

I’d say the most important thing is to actually study (and review previously learned things) every day.

There’s a bunch of fancy tricks for different situations (depending on what you’re learning), but if you don’t have a solid foundation (daily studying), the tricks don’t really matter.

After doing WK every day for 9 months I noticed that my memory improved quite a bit. So, WK is a good way to improve one’s memory on its own.

So I should study my Japanese besides WaniKani? I’m going through Genki at a slow pace at the moment.

Try to find a pace that works best for you. This might take a few chapters of Genki to figure out, but it will be worth it. I find if I go through the book too fast nothing sticks, but if I take too much time with things, I end up forgetting some of the earlier stuff more easily.

What I’ve found most important for me was to do some sort of studying every day, be it Genki, reading some other material, listening practice etc… as long as I’m doing something every day, even for a bit. Using what you’ve learned really does go a long way into remembering it and knowing how to apply it in other contexts, and that has been the most helpful in terms of memorizing everything I’ve learned so far, at least for me.
