If you download the userscript in this thread, it gives you some useful info about the kanji used in the example sentences, such as which level of wanikani you learn the kanji, and if a kanji isnt in wanikani at all.
Coupled with Rikaikun, a browser extension which when enabled allows you to hover over kanji/vocabulary and see the meanings, will make it very easy to make understand many sentences even with minimal grammar knowledge.
You could also go to Jisho, an online Jpn-Eng dictionary, type in a word, and click on links then sentence search and see if they have sentences closer to your level.
