If you log out and log in from the forums here, it will automatically update to your current level. Otherwise, I have no idea how it updates. Mine changed from 16 to 17 right when I leveled up to 18.

Sounds like you figured it out. It updates to not be more than one level behind unless you log out and in to refresh or you manually override
