I couldn't find out if that term is Japanese or Chinese: 報復性熬夜

I saw that term in a post at instagram. If it is japanese, could someone do a breakdown for me, plz?

Assuming this article is accurate it’s Chinese:

It’s a term widely circulated on the Chinese internet: revenge bedtime procrastination (報復性熬夜).

Aye, to my surprise, 熬 is a kanji that exists in Japanese, but it’s basically got no uses aside from being an alternate way to write words that use 炒.

報復 means “revenge”, though.

This is traditional Chinese:

The simplified Chinese equivalent is 报复性熬夜.
(Disclaimer: I don’t know anything about Chinese. I just looked this up on the internet.)
