Sometimes life gets in your way. Sometimes things happen and you wander away for a few days, and then when you get back, the review list is hundreds of items long, and that’s going to take a while to get through, so you put it off until you have some time, and then you look back at it a few weeks later and a lot of what you’re reviewing doesn’t look that familiar, so you put it off some more, and then, well, years pass. And you’ve got that lifetime membership, so you look back every so often and realize that ALL of the review items look unfamiliar. So you think, I know, I’ll just reset back from level 10 to level 5 or so, and then I’ll get back into the swing of things. And then you…don’t. After all, the review list still has a hundred things you don’t remember at all. It’s intimidating, and it hurts to get them all wrong over and over for a while until you memorize them again.
Anyway, I recently buckled down and got back into it. And, after spending 1335 days and 1 hour at level 5, I just hit level 6
. Next stop, level 60!
I gotta say, getting back into Wanikani after an extended stop is ROUGH. But only for a few days. It gets easier again fast. I encourage all the other quitters to give it another go.
Hey I can guess how that would feel lol. It’s probably the same feeling with most learning journey when life gets in the way and somehow you don’t find the courage to grind your way up again and it keeps getting worse overtime lol.
I’m not even level 4 yet so I’m barely starting but I know that this would happen if I’m not careful with my study. So my idea is that I should have wanikani with me at all times, thus I basically looked for a mobile app straight after starting my journey in here. It’s called Mina and it’s done by community members! It does use the API in a way that works with the old version of the website if I understand correctly but the data accessed is provided in the same way (you get a mini dashboard with lessons & reviews so that’s basically what I need).
Using it is very easy and helps me get on my reviews whenever I have the time and it’s completely free. I recommend it for anyone trying to stay on track! Sometimes I just open it up last minute in bed before sleeping
Very convenient I must say.
That’s awesome, keep at it! It doesn’t really matter how long it will take, you will get there someday
Congratulations on being able to buckle through lvl 5! May it encourage others to do the same and remember, every step on the way is important! It is always possible to try again, even if you failed the previous time!
I know the feeling of trying to start again all too well (having my own post from a while back). It is very though, especially when the review pile is large. I encourage everyone to use the clock button in the review when you have a similar issue. This allows you to break off your review halfway and continue later after a while, as the mental load of 100’s of items is a lot!
May you continue on your journey, learn a lot, and be rewarding doing so!
