How'd you get your sect name?

That’s not your sect name

Apparently your profile won’t reflect your sect name if you received it on the new forums. :c

I got mine on the new forum, and it’s an actual sect name

Speaking of that thing that cannot be named, that one can see on his/her own profile, the question is: can also other users see it as well?
Or does it become visible only when it is changed?
Or this question an infrigiment of the unspoken rule and cannot be answered?

Sect names were on the old forums, titles are on these discourse forums.

Sect names are unique, titles can be given to multiple people.
You can change your titles, not your sect name.

You can choose to display one title.
It can be found beside your name in the forums.
On the badges page, you can see who has received a certain title.
So, if someone went through all the names, they could find your name in the list.
The titles with only 1-2 people can be found easily.

Yes, do not talk about sect names or titles.
(How I got my current title.)

You just need to be a true believer.

Simple.

Also, I wondered why it said, “potato vodka,” because I was under the impression that all vodka was made from potatoes. Apparently, that’s never really been true. It’s mostly made from grains and fruit!

POTATO!!!

@koichi This is what the rules for asking about sects state:

Oh, do you want to be a member of the tofu sect? HA! Don’t make me laugh. If you ask to be a member of a sect, you’ll never get in.

Never ask for a sect.

With that in mind, I will ask for a sect to exist in general, even if I can never get in. I propose a “Keeping Koichi Proud” sect for people that have reset from 60 to 42, but only while they are level 42.

Many resets ago I crunched through 900 reviews. I…don’t recommend ever letting your pile get that high…

After resetting to level 1 and studying diligently while slowly working my way up again, I finally realised today I am a true believer.

This experience has changed me for the better.

Hail the crabigator.

My old sect name was Durtle. There were so many durtles, I told them I was willing to pay to get it changed. Haha. Honestly I wish you could “earn” sect names based on levels. Would be motivating.

The last time I was in this thread was in 2015 and I don’t even know what I was saying.

Only realized today that “Asking for Sect name is illegal” :joy:

Read the Pinned post for the first time on my 1 Year anniversary of WK :stuck_out_tongue:

Today I learned:

1 - Wanikani and the forums are closer than I thought
2- Wanikani has lore
3 - There are special badges given by staff called sect names and they’re such an inside joke by the mods and the people who used to call the old forums home that they’ve been removed from all official documentation
4 - Koichi, like any other human being, has committed mistakes in the past (I think? I concluded a certain bear got a temporary ban for pointing them out plus being really rash in general. I doubt it was anything more than “this thing in wanikani is bad even tho it costs money”)
5 - EtoEto is dead but Koichi will replace it in one or two years with something else
6 - This reply was a mistake for you should never talk about sect names.

Indeed, very interesting.
This community has people who do things. At first I thought it was just superficial interactions relating to the japanese language given the extremely friendly and neutral atmosphere.

I feel like such observations ruin the spirit of this thread, but I sincerely believe a 2015 thread about a defunct(?) feature that reveals such interesting details about a community should be treated as a history piece for that community and debated. Or maybe not, because you know, it’s just people interacting. Why should we talk about that.
