How to address husband and wife?

How to distinguish between two people with the same surname in a formal setting? For context, I met the wife of my co-worker Sanno-san at a company event. Do I also address her as Sanno-san? I understand this would be the case if talking to her individually, but what about if addressing her when both are present? Or when mentioning one or the other in a conversation in which both are engaged?

I have the same problem at work. Both my boss and his wife is around, but I always call the wife for “surnameの奥さん” or just “first nameさん”. It is quite informal at my workplace, so not sure what the most polite and correct way is though…
