I use WK for about 1,5 Years and I’m “only” Level 11, although I use it every day. But my progress is ok for me, I seldom have more than 100 Reviews. I use other resources as well (e.g. Satori Reader, Japanesepod101, Renshuu and Migaku), and although my process is indeed very slow, I’m proud that I still use it with fun. Ok, not every day, but most of the time.
A real turning point and a boost to my motivation was the ability to link Satori Reader with WK, so that furigana are displayed only for kanji I don’t know. However, I often encounter kanji I learned outside of WK, and I’ve realized that my knowledge is actually more extensive than what WK reflects.
Just wanna saying. WK is a great additional tool that supports my learning process, although I would need still 8 years to complete it.
Well I am level 10 in 90 days (grinding slowly now to 11 ) so I am not slow but my bunpro and vocab decks are somewhat of a challenge as bunpro is still teaching me the missing N5 vocab while I am 10% done in the N4 grammar deck, it’s jarring to know I can connect to words but actually don’t have them
My goal is also different so that also motivates to kinda push through doing extra everyday + the genuine feeling of repeating the sentences and being able to accidently read a N3 sentence is now kinda gives me the hit…so i am not stable is the conclusion and what you are doing is what normal people do with language as you are already going with the reading also which in my book is the absolute learning point for any language ,especially japanese…
Even @trunklayer kun took many years (nearly your estimated timeline) to reach level 60 but he has read and played many games in japanese…his reading is probably near N1 I think (trunky kun is part of the POLL if you are wondering…you will see him in the most amazing threads supporting people…)
Eight years is a lot of time. Everyone has a different plan though. Is there any way you could move it to 4 years? Two years is my personal max because I don’t have the stamina to stick around for any longer.
I use a lot of other sources. So i discover often new Kanjis and words that appear only in later levels. Today I “learned” 嬉しい, which only occurs on level 40. So I hope to extend my vocabulary and don’t need 2-3 months for one WK level. 3,5 months is my negative record indeed.
I’m a bit over 2 years in, I think. And only at level 14. It’s because I have other hobbies and life stuff to balance. I used to level through pretty fast, but I also really need to do it every day. Now I can do it every other day while other things in life are busier. I’m sure I can pick it up again though, but I also need to do more Satori Reader or just general reading, since I think reading, instead of merely recognizing Kanji, is (one of) my end goal(s).
You may need to speed up or the reincarnation cycle will wipe the hard-earned kanji and vocabs you aquired… just based on your 1 lvl / 2 year speed…you might really be a turtle durtle in the true sense…
There is such a thing as too slow. Two years per level that’ll be like 120 years. Maybe the fast levels make that one year. If you could make that 10 levels a year. Then at least in three years you’d have most kanji
The default pace is really fast. I struggle to keep up with it. The amount of cards I have in “apprentice” occasionally gets over 100, and that’s the only time I don’t do the default pace (which seems to be about 15 new cards daily).
It’s about 90 days for me, and I’m on Level 6. I don’t know how you guys are getting to level 10 in 90 days unless you’re doing more than what the default serves up?
I am also doing Bunpro, Anki, and several other things, but I still hope to be around level 40 sometime next summer if I stick to the default pace.
been here several years and this is the highest level I’ve been, even after a couple resets to level 1. I’m not studying often though either. More casually right now than I’d like. I do what I can while “life” gets in the way but I’m still enjoying the process, whatever it might be.
My “process” includes giving up for months at a time and finally working up the courage to tackle a pile of 600+ reviews. Got N3 a couple years ago but the study cramming really took it out of me and I ended up not studying grammar for ages. Back at it now but… I need some more consistency
You have to find your personal pace. I was doing 25 a day and I ended up with an apprentice queue of 300. Doing something like 400 reviews a day. Turns out the best pace for me now is to do 15 and I have about 250 daily with around june 19th where I will be at around 200 max daily reviews which will be excellent. Actually, it seems like its only decreasing from there. 149 by December 5th?
Actually, the risk here is that I might run out of wani kani before I reach satori hard levels.
Yeah…I did do level 2 and 3 at 20 items/ day so that picked the speed up + I mostly clear a level in 10 days but some levels got cleared in 7 and that put the show of doing “lvl 10 in 90 days”
I am still lvl 10 though…don’t skip the vocabs and lvl 9 vocabs are too many it seems
Currently 78 days in and at level 8. I spent the first 3 levels going as slow as possible to make the free period last so that’s definitely affected my total pace a little bit. Ideally I’d like to finish in a year but that’s unlikely at this pace lol.
138 days of actually studying and I’ve reached level 14! It may seem silly, but I’m trying to go as fast as I can, whenever I can. So I do my kanji and radical lessons asap and make sure that all my reviews get done in a day, which is about 150~300 depending on how many lessons I’ve done recently.
I started some time in December last year, and just hit level 5. I have a full time job and other things, so I do reviews as I can and try to keep my review pile above 25 a day for now. I find it insanely hard to actually learn more than 5-10 lessons at a time, but I don’t think the stories actually do anything for me as they don’t stick in my brain at all. After the first 2 reviews I rarely have problems remembering them, but I very often have issues remembering things like kyuu vs kyou vs kyoo, an example of this is 八日, youka, eighth day, I consistently fail the spelling at the guru stage so far, so I figure I’m just taking that vocabulary along as a little buddy on my trip.
