My end goal is to become fluent (for some definition of fluent) in speaking / listening. I will start doing sessions with teachers on Italki soon. (I have never had a private tutor before.)
My original thinking was that I would establish some ground rules to stay mostly in Japanese mode. For example, it might be something like this.
Example format 1:
- I ask you questions about Japanese using only Japanese.
- You answer in Japanese.
- I ask follow-up questions in Japanese if possible (e.g. 「Japanese term」の意味を説明してください)
- If I get stuck, I’m allowed to say something like 「English term」は日本語で何と言いますか and then I have to use the Japanese version after that.
Example format 2:
The same idea except a normal conversation instead of Q&A.
How have you made good use of tutor / teacher time?
Any aspect of your routine that proved especially effective?
