How do you all escape this?

I reached level 2 and thought “oh this will be easy”

BUT!
Wanikani thought “oh boy, how naive”
I do my reviews on time (as much as i can ) but one thing that i got to know now is that WK doesn’t forgive you if you have FATTY FINGERS as most of my incorrect reviews are because i typed a kana wrong . Me cry , why ? i am now down to 96.73% on correct reviews and when i see “Previous period : 100%” i cry some more . did you all also cry ? or did you say sweet words about WK and continue ?
Is there a way to escape this ? :crab:

As someone whose brain sometimes does Chi instead of shi, or vice versa…
I feel this pain.

I kind of wish it was more forgiving when you typo kana that is visible kana.

There were definitely a couple times I’ve rage quit because of typos, and it’s especially demoralizing when the thing you got wrong is close to getting burned. But know that this is something that will occasionally happen throughout your journey and will not greatly affect your overall % of correct reviews in the long run.

Typos are the reasons I started using a third party app (I do all of my reviews on my phone anyway) that has a “undo” button.
My “recent mistakes” items legit dropped by half.
Of course, it’s up to you to not abuse it, but I only use when it’s a honest typo and I knew exactly the answer.

There are a number of solutions for typos if you care to use them, but I personally prefer just to use base Wanikani and have found that it has trained me into being extra diligent on my reviews. After 30 some levels I very rarely have typo troubles and the extra second I take to make sure I don’t have a typo has also helped me notice quite a few incorrect answers

I use Tsurukame to do my reviews, it has an option to “ask again later” or “my answer was correct” and it’s a lifesaver since I also make so many typos on this little phone keyboard. There might be a similar user script if you don’t want to use the app

I struggle with this too sometimes. The thing that helps me is to remember that none of these stats matter. I should care only about doing my daily lessons and reviews. Everything else is white noise.

I use the Double-Check userscript, which allows me to press backspace to retype my answer:

Haha sooo, I found a little cheat to solve this because it happens to me a lot too. No script or addon stuff needed.

When you enter the answer, dont advance to the next word. Click back to the home page, the mistake doesnt get saved. The word will come back up as if nothing happened.

The only inconvenience is you will also have to answer the other words again that didnt get leveled up/down. Hope this helps and makes sense!

This is why I use Tsurukame. You can use the “Ask again later” feature to get the item again as if you never missed it. A good undo script also works.

This irritates me too, because I don’t use romaji but instead type hiragana directly (on phone). Many times I say the correct pronunciation out loud and then make typo in hiragana.

When it happens with current level kanji that I need for advancing the level, I sometimes hit the back button (just like phoenix134 above) and redo it. Otherwise I just accept my sloppiness and continue. It’s really not such a big deal overall.

I’m okay with the typos. Eventually they will burn in properly as the right reading.

If you are using base Wanikani, just refresh your browser or close the tab/page and open Wanikani again. The typo won’t count as a mistake and that review will go back into your pile along with several of the other reviews you have completed in your current session.

You are the one responsible for your own learning and studying so do what feels right for you.

Thankuuu :slightly_smiling_face:

It did…..and it didn’t at the same time . I fear i will visit the wanikani dashboard a few times more now everyday :smiling_face_with_tear:

…..you are too much! too much hardworking i say .:right_facing_fist:

What I have done in the past is make a note on the word, and continue. That way you can finish words you’ve already half done, and when the incorrect word comes back round, THEN i hit the home button before answering. It helps cut down having to do words I do know 3-4 times just because I had only done the reading or meaning of them and they get reset.

Intorestingo

Definitely get a script set up. Typo is a dumb reason to add to future reviews something you already know well (unless you don’t care about wasting your time). This should be part of base WaniKani for sure.

Couldn’t get script to work very well, didn’t like Tsurukame. Recently got back into Wanikani again with ios app Kakehashi. Works on iphone, ipad and mac.. so perfect. Love UI.. seems to accept most sloppy input and great for adding kanji writing practice with immersion with anime examples etc.. love it so so much!
