How do I type 2時? (for example)

On Forvo, I want to be able to type a number+o’clock with the number closer to the o’clock. I get better results this way. Yes, I know it is not necessary to type this way in normal situations.

I just type “2 j i enter” after switching to the Japanese input.

2時

What do you mean by “closer” to the o’clock?

I am using the Japanese input method on macOS with a western keyboard.

Okay, I think I understand the question now.
It seems like the Japanese IME on my mac will automatically use the normal character 2 when I type this. It offers the possibility to change to a different “kanji” character 2.
Your IME is probably using this by default:

2時 vs 2時

I think you will need to switch to non-Japanese Input and enter the “normal” 2 and then switch back to Japanese input? Or the IME will show the other one as an option to select?

It depends on your device and operating system. On PC / Debian with ibus/mozc, I can set the numbers on the top row to be full-width and the ones on the keypad half-width.

Gboard on Android gives me the options to select either after typing.

niji with romaji input gives it to me as an option

im using windows 11, japanese ime. i can only achieve 2時 or 二時 and typing the latter took me having to type nijihan. there is no option for (copy pasted) 2時.

phnorowk’s suggestion worked, but man is it inconvenient. i had google japanese input before but uninstalled it and switched to japanese ime because toggling hiragana is easier and im not constantly typing ```````

You might have to cycle through 20 options with space, but you should be able to do it.

That is, type “niji”, then hit space until it’s the version you want, then hit enter.

After typing it like that a few times, it got promoted to the top of the list.

Thank you!!

I also find that using the number pad (when in IME mode) produces narrower numerals without having to run through the suggestions - so numpad-2 + ji + just one [space] = 2時
