Help me understand how this is a duck

I know the mnemonics are supposed to be wild in order for them to stick. But this is the first one I encountered that’s driving me insane, I don’t see a duck or a tamagotchi. If anyone sees it, please explain.

I assume they mean the top line and the middle line that jut out to the right look like the open bill of a quacking duck.

And this is probably what they’re going for with the tamagotchi mention.

As for the line across the middle, I imagine one of these guys, where the colors meet along the neck:

Looks a bit more cartoony in my imagination

As an aside, tamagotchi are popular again in Japan this year. So this mnemonic is even more relevant again

I would never have understood this to be a duck or tamagochi either :grimacing: I’m glad I saw this

I had completely forgotten that this was supposed to be a duck.

Looks less like a duck and more like a square-shaped chicken to me. Perhaps this one?

Also, amazingly fun kanji learning game!

There is this saying…

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck

Looks more like an eagle to me.

Surely what you meant to say was Why a Duck?
