Friend watching?

TorijaCarlos said... if anyone is interested in watching how i move along i'll be updating http://wanikani.torijacarlos.com/competitive.php time to time.

also if anyone is interested in helping with visuals you're welcome, i'll make a repo in git, will be posting link later
It shouldn't just be a website where you enter in two api codes.

What you need to do is have one user enter in his api code and email. Your website should store both the api code, email, username (retrieved with the api), and level in a database. The user can then fill out other usernames (rather than their api codes) from WaniKani that they want to keep track of (these names should also be stored in the database). Whenever someone on a user's list goes up a level, your website should then email the user .

( damn...  it took me too long to figure out how to indent... and i think i didn't do it the way it is supposed to be...)

Man!! ok i'll do that but then the base will be http://wanikani.torijacarlos.com i'll do first some visuals then the db will be only two tables... i guess, one for users, and one for friends, i'll make more tables if i do any more developments. but for this that'll be okay.

mmm should i do a thread specific to dev progress?
thanks !

 友人と競い合う
compete against a friend maybe?

Yeah, I also believe that adding a friend sorta system to compare scores and such would be interesting! I also think that eventually to have a form of like mini game where a Kanji at the person of a lower level and person of higher levels knowledge appears on the screen and who ever gets it first gets a point and it keeps going until a set score. I think it would be kind of fun. I have very very rusty python so I wouldn’t really be able to put together something of that sort but It seems like something one of our API overlords could most likely get working. Either way it can be elaborated off of.

Eternal-Illusion said... Well i don't know of anything like what you mentioned... But I keep an eye on my rival defaye... All you have to do is go to their profile and open a new tab so you can switch back and forth to compare. If you want to be even more creepy you can bookmark their profile. (I have not done that... yet)
Why creepy? That's what I've done with my friends to keep them on their toes.
Oh good, you make me feel less weird about considering it XD.

Think this is a really nice idea!
Although I don’t have friends who use WK… Everybody studied Japanese at University or is not interested in Japanese sniff
Think I have to search for new friends so I can use the “Friends Observer” as soon as it is included ^_-

ok i’m done for now,
Here’s the repo if anyone wants to play with it, nothing special
https://github.com/TorijaCarlos/wanikani_stats
And the live version
http://wanikani.torijacarlos.com/

then again, nothing special, just getting started =D

This is a very dumb question but how do you find someone else’s API key?

you ask them for it I guess.

Awesome!  Thanks, TorijaCarlos, you work FAST!  I just asked my buddy for his key, so I’ll test it out tomorrow.  If anyone wants to play with it, my API key is 5f4e6f2b1740ebcf9fb22199b3dfe7e9.

The biggest thing I think would be cool would be the ability to register for accounts and set up your friends, so that it would email me whenever someone leveled up.  That, and the ability to see our progress side by side.  Can’t wait to see it evolve!

I fully support this project. Thanks, Torija!

bug report:
I tested it out with tobin’s and my keys, but it displayed my stats twice and his not at all.

Take the average time to level for each person compared, and see when you would OVERPASSS that person if you were to both continue reviews at the same pace. There was another API that took average level time.

If it’s too difficult dont worry about it, but it’d be cool to see “You level past them in 15 days at current pace” or something.

Ditto, had the same problem as spacey.  It shows the same user twice, instead of comparing the two.  Looking pretty neat so far though!

I want to see at what pace i will be able to pass Absolutionz. He has been sitting lazily at level 45 for quite a while. His old rival Suimaru is about reach level 50…

How’s it going, Carlos?

sorry, i got some stuff going on today ( 42+ lessons with a fallen server, problems with my WK subscription and some work at the office ), but now i can finally move along =D

mmm can someone lend me an apikey for the testing and stuff? alejandro.torija.b@gmail.com

ok it’s way to messy but it fulfills the scope i got planned for today so… give it a try =D http://wanikani.torijacarlos.com/competitive.php

still work in progress far from finished but would like to here comments to build with that.

so far i’m missing
- graphs
- time to get in same level
- sessions to safe friend lists
- everything else i missed in the forum

Im kinda excited to play this, but I have no idea how, I dont understand the password thing

What if you have no friends?
