It’s okay, I’ll play the music myself!
I almost completed the first music of FFI, in one month, so I’ll be playing FFV in no time!

September 19 it is!

Week by week comparisons, based on text. Each week’s is the total of all text up to that point in the game, not what’s in the specific week.
Week 1: FF4: Running total lines: 6067 running total chars, ~281 lines)
FF5: Running total lines: 10409 running total chars, ~493 lines)
Week 2: FF4: Running total lines: 10789 running total chars, ~515 lines)
FF5: Running total lines: 18931 running total chars, ~902 lines)
Week 3: FF4: Running total lines: 20691 running total chars, ~1069 lines)
FF5: Running total lines: 26751 running total chars, ~1323 lines)
Week 4: FF4: Running total lines: 25849 running total chars, ~1320 lines)
FF5: Running total lines: 31601 running total chars, ~1639 lines)
Week 5: FF4: Running total lines: 34019 running total chars, ~1760 lines)
FF5: Running total lines: 38102 running total chars, ~2033 lines)

So basically FF5 is around a week “ahead” in terms of total dialogue compared to FF4’s pace. I can’t yet report the full total for FFV, but for FFIV it ended up at ~3000 lines and ~57000 characters, where I define a “line” as a single dialogue box that you press A to continue from. There’s also a lot more gameplay time in FFV.

That’s a decent increase, but not unreasonable I hope? At any rate we’ll have to cross that (big) bridge sooner or later.

At least for the english speaking world you are probably correct.

A few years ago (a bit after XVI came out) I added together the top 3 of a bunch of FF rankings. I awarded the top 3 spot 1 point the top 2 spot 2 points and the top 1 spot 3 points. The result was as follows:

Title Points
I 5
II 2
III 4
IV 18
V 15
VI 109
VII 122
VIII 25
IX 96
X 96
XI 3
XII 35
XIII 9
XIV 35
XV 15
XVI 8

So this is not a total ranking of the titles but rather an indicator of how many people have this title among their favourites. Also my sources were only english rankings on youtube.

But anyway, the difference between IV and V isn’t actually that big. But VI has more points than I-V combined by a lot.

Scheduling all that side content is starting to become challenging…

You could always leave some weeks lighter and let people fill in side quests whenever they want. Assuming there’s enough flexibility for that rather than there being a bunch of side quests that expire if you miss them.

Yeah I agree. There’s definitely going to be a point where we can’t assume everyone will do every side quest as they get increasingly loaded and kind of ridiculous on the PS1 so there’s always the option to soft launch letting us manage it ourselves if it’s too much of a pain in 5.

Is anyone else aware of the OVA sequel to this game?

It takes place 200 years after the game so it isn’t heavily connected but stars the descendants of some of the characters. I watched it a long time ago and it was like a 6/10 fantasy/adventure anime. Not terrible but not particularly amazing either. The one thing that stands out in my mind though is that the heroine stores the crystal in her butt cheeks for some reason. Like it melds into her flesh and is physically inside her cheeks and then they light up like car headlights. It was so unbelievably stupid that I wasn’t angry, just confused. I’ll probably try to track it down again after we beat the game so I can experience the madness once more.
