I wanna say thank you to @simias for running another successful game club! Though our numbers may have dwindled, he fearlessly led us through the dark ages of the Famicom. I can hardly believe we’ve been playing these games almost every week since last September when we started FF1.
I hope that the Super Famicom titles will prove more popular in the long run.
I’m also curious to see what the FF7 Week 1 participation is going to look like… and how many will keep on playing.
I’m sure we’ve all wondered it, so I went through the polls. I counted both “preplaying” and “playing along” as participation, since we really have no way of knowing if the “catch up laters” ever did.
| Game | First week participation | Final week participation | Survival rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 53 | 18 | 34.0% |
| 2 | 24 | 15 | 62.5% |
| 3 | 19 | 11 | 57.9% |
Pretty much what I would’ve expected. I suspect 7’s dropoff will be even steeper than 1’s. It’s interesting that a higher percentage made it through 2 than 3, but that could just be recency - it’s only been a couple days since 3’s last week was posted, and it’s a beefy week.
For the upcoming FF4 club to try and put more actual language discussion in it I was thinking of trying to hold little language related questions each week: stuff like favourite new word learned, grammar you noticed, things like this. I think something similar was already planned by Simias by I will try to think of nice things too.
I wanted to do “music track of the week” but having Japanese-related prompts would be great as well!
Oh nice stats ![]()
Yes it’s really nice to get those discussions going, thanks for posting those frequently and in different clubs!
Another idea could be something similar to what I remember seeing an ABC, where the person leading the club was making some weekly quizzes. Really made you pay attention. Like, what’s the name of NPC in X town? What’s their job? Or things like that.
