I could swear I remember them saying something, I must be misremembering, I probably remember talking to them and being surprised they even had dialogue boxes at all
They did successfully made me talk with every other bat in the game however…
Only 14 minutes of poking things today, fastest session yet!
My bestiary seems to be coming along okay, I’ve got the first 70 entries filled out and only a few missing in the 80s/90s. I’m going to wait until the final week to make sure I’ve got everything as it’ll be the start to a vacation and I’ll have plenty of time to play.
I accidentally got my cube on a different week because I couldn’t find what I needed. Got the L5 passed and then went to all of the folks until one gave me something. So grateful for a quick progression to the next week!
FYI when you use the new Discourse editor you have to collapse the [detail] before posting otherwise it will appear open by default, ruining the spoiler-protection feature.
Alternatively you can switch back to the markdown editor with the icon at the top-left of the edit window (next to the Bold icon) and then remove the open attribute at the opening of the [detail]:
Managed to get through this week in one lunch break. Once again, being the filthiest preplayer of them all really came through for me. The robot was a lot easier to parse than the Kraken and since I already knew everything about the Lufenians, I was able to piece together what they were saying pretty easily. WK and Bunpro have also continued to give me relevant words recently so it ended up being not nearly as bad as I was expecting going off of the rest of this thread. It was also entertaining seeing you all finally learn the secrets of the bats. lol I ended this week at level 39 with 11:16 on the clock.
Regarding Stranger of Paradise and Expanded FFI Lore
Not quite true. Stranger of Paradise is one of many retellings of the story of FFI. Möbius Final Fantasy and Dissidia are others. SoP is a soulslike action game where you play as Jack Garland on his quest to kill Chaos. It largely follows a lot of the same plot beats but has a larger focus on villain characters like Bikke and Astos. The Lufenians also get a lot of development in this version. The story of FFI leaves a lot to the imagination so it’s ripe for reinterpretations.
Möbius is kind of a metatextual story about storytelling and the power stories can have. It also follows a lot of the same story beats but has a much more specific prophecy that everyone is really invested in seeing coming to fruition; to the point that they’ll happily die for it. The gameplay was typical gacha garbage but the story was intriguing enough to string me along to the finale. I really wish it was getting the “remade for console” treatment instead of Brave Exvius because BE’s writing is straight trash. Alas.
The non-mobile Dissidia games are an alternate take on the time loop Garland created. Cosmos, the goddess of harmony, and Chaos summon warriors from other worlds to fight a proxy war. At the end of the original story, all of the heroes go back to their own worlds except for the Warrior of Light. He steps onto a hill overlooking a castle in a recreation of the iconic bridge scene from FFI, revealing that the world they had been fighting in the whole time was the world of FFI.
This time I really struggled on some of the language. I think I looked up more words this week than any of the others, and even then I didn’t quite get everything until I re-read it all in the spreadsheet.
Also, there is no way I’d have known what to do with the stone without reading the hint in the first post in the thread. Since I’m mostly here for language, I might just start using a guide from the beginning for FF2, especially if it’s like this. I think it would be pretty interesting to try to follow along with a guide written in Japanese.
There’s a lot of faux Ye Olde Nipponese language this week if I remember correctly, it’s definitely challenging although after a while you notice that they tend to always use the same tricks and idioms and it becomes easier to parse.
